Holderchem offers innovative solutions to tunnelling contractors based on products formulated to obtain reliability and consistency in performance. Solutions involve the supply of silica fume modified patching materials and shotcrete, anti-bleed segregation and viscosity-modifying admixtures, corrosion inhibiting admixtures, and accelerating admixtures to minimize rebounds of sprayed concrete and mortar. It also provides micro and macro synthetic fibres and steel fibres to control the plastic shrinkage and cracking of concrete and mortars.

Water ingress is a major concern in tunnelling applications as it is of the utmost importance to ensure a dry environment. Concrete used in tunnelling applications has to resist heat, frost and water, and chemical attacks from carbon dioxide gases, chloride ions and sulphates from aggressive urban environments. In particular, water can cause severe damage to concrete structures, be it by water ingress or seepage. Watertight concrete is thus a crucial factor not only influencing the durability of concrete but also the life expectancy of the whole structure. To ensure watertight concrete, high-range water reducers and integral waterproofing admixtures are recommended.

It also supplies repair mortars and cementitious waterproof and protective coatings, including anti-carbonation paints, and non-shrink grouts for both tunnelling repair and new construction.
