Lightweight Concrete

Lightweight concrete, or concrete with a low density, is designed with low-density aggregates and materials or by incorporating air voids to reduce fresh concrete density. It is produced in a wide range of dry densities ranging from 600 to 1600 kg/m³. Common lightweight elements include ceilings, walls, bridge decks, and slabs. It is commonly produced as a leveling concrete, for thermal insulation, for refilling trenches and excavations, filling of sewage pipes, cellular concrete below basement slabs, and roof surface as a leveling layer. It incorporates as the case may be lightweight aggregates, expanded clays or polystyrene, foaming agents, or special air void producing agents. It is easily workable in a fresh state. The hardened concrete is durable and stable in shape and adjustable in weight and strength.

Holderchem supplies a range of products required for the production of lightweight concrete, which includes the following:

  • high range water reducers to reduce the permeability and improve the workability of lightweight concrete;
  • foaming admixtures used to produce low-density concrete; and
  • pumping aids to improve pumping ability and improve the cohesion of lightweight concrete.
