Improved cementitious tile adhesive with reduced slip and extended open time
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-444 is a two-component cementitious-based product with improved waterproofing and open time properties. The powder component (A) is a blend of Portland cement, fillers, fine-graded sand, and a combination of special additives and sealing compounds. The liquid component (B) is based on synthetic-rubber latex resins. The product is designed to yield reduced slip and enhanced waterproofing and bonding properties.
Batimix Tile Adhesive WE-444 is used for inside and outside fixing of large-sized natural or reconstructed tiles and stones, and where waterproofing and high-performance properties are required.
Applications include tiling of residential, public, and industrial structures that are likely to be subjected to vibrations, extreme flexing, or deforming problems. It eliminates active or passive damp and moisture penetrations.
Admissible substrates include concrete, cement-based plasters, whether painted or not, screeds, hollow blocks, polystyrene, sound-deadening panels, and gypsum boards. Tiling over existing tiles can also be done but after testing.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-444 has the following characteristics:
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-444 contains cement and liquid irritating to eyes and skin. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. For further information, kindly refer to the Material Safet Data Sheet.
Substrate preparation: The surface of the substrate must be cured, mechanically strong, and thoroughly cleaned from all dust, loose particles, oil, wax, etc. BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-444 works well on dry surfaces, but can also be applied on lightly dampened ones.
Mixing: Mix the entire A and B components of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-444 with an electric mixer at a slow speed for a minimum of 3 minutes to get a uniform lump free consistency. Adding a small amount of clean water may be done in case a more workable and loose consistency is desired.
Application of the mix: Whenever waterproofing is required, BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-444 can be laid with an un-toothed trowel to a uniform thickness of 1 to 2 mm; and after hardening (24 hours), a second coat can be applied with a toothed trowel for bonding the tiles. For other tiling works, the product can be directly applied to the desired thickness using a toothed trowel.
Do not spread more than 1 m² of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-444 at a time. The mortar should be adjusted to the desired thickness using a notched trowel that will give coverage on the tiles back of at least 75% for indoor walls and floors subjected to light foot traffic or 90% for heavy traffic floors and outdoor applications.
Installing the tiles: There is no need to dampen the tiles prior to installation. Apply a firm pressure to ensure good contact with the adhesive. The open time is around 30 minutes at 23 ºC. However, highly absorbent substrate or unfavorable weather conditions (high temperature, drying wind, or strong sun) may shorten this open time quite drastically.
Constant checks should be conducted to determine if the mortar is still fresh to the touch and capable of providing good adhesion to the tiles. In case a surface dried skin has formed on top of the adhesive, it is advisable to re-trowel the mortar with a notched trowel which would help restoring the open time.
Grouting and protection: Wall joints between applied tiles can be grouted after 12 hours and floor joints after 24 hours with any appropriate grout similar to BATIMIX Tile Grout series. All tiling made with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-444 must be protected from direct sun and washout for at least 5 to 7 days.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-444 is manufactured to comply with EN 12004 for Tile Adhesives of Class C2TE: Improved Cementitious Adhesive with Additional Characteristics, Reduced Slip, and Extended Open Time.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-444 shelf life is six months from the production date if stored in a closed place.
