Batimix Tile Adhesive WE-441

Holderchem

Two-component deformable and waterproof tile adhesive

Description

BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-441 is a high performance two-component cementitious-based product with improved deformability and waterproofing properties.

The powder component (A) is designed from a blend of Type I Portland cement, fillers, fine-graded sand together with a combination of specialty additives for improved waterproofing and open time. The liquid component (B) is based on elastomer and synthetic-rubber latex resins for enhancing deformability and bonding strength.

Main Purpose

  • Residential, public, and industrial structures likely to be subjected to vibrations, extreme flexing, or deforming problems
  • Whenever thermic or dimensional variations are expected in external facades
  • Whenever the possibility of active or passive damp and moisture penetrations have to be eliminated
  • Inside or outside fixing of large-size natural or reconstructed tiles and stones where waterproofing and high performance properties are required
  • Admissible substrates include concrete, cement-based plasters (painted or not), screeds, hollow blocks, and gypsum boards. Tiling over existing tiles can also be done, but after preliminary tests

Features

BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-441 has the following characteristics

  • High quality tiling work can be achieved in a clean and speedy manner
  • Mixing the A and B components leads to a hydrophobic and easy troweling product with consistent fresh and hardened properties
  • Large and heavy tiles can be laid on vertical surfaces with minimum slippage
  • Increased flexibility and permanent waterproofing against active or passive water pressure
  • Limited shrinkage and stronger layer bond between the substrate and tiles

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-441 contains cement and a liquid irritating to eyes and skin. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. For further information, kindly refer to the product Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

Substrate preparation: The surface of the substrate must be cured, mechanically strong, and thoroughly cleaned from all dust, loose particles, oil, wax, etc. BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-441 works well on dry surfaces, but can also be applied on lightly dampened ones.

Mixing: Mix the entire A and B components of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-441 with an electric mixer at a slow speed for a minimum of 3 minutes to get a uniform lump free consistency. Adding a small amount of clean water may be done in case a more workable and loose consistency is desired.

Application of the mix: Whenever waterproofing is required, BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-441 can be laid with an un-toothed trowel to a uniform thickness of 1 to 2 mm; and after hardening (24 hours), a second coat can be applied with a toothed trowel for bonding the tiles. For other tiling works, the product can be directly applied to the desired thickness using a toothed trowel.

Do not spread more than 1 m² of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-441 at a time. The mortar should be adjusted to the desired thickness using a notched trowel that will give coverage on the tiles back of at least 75% for indoor walls and floors subjected to light foot traffic or 90% for heavy traffic floors and outdoor applications.

Installing the tiles: There is no need to dampen the tiles prior to installation. Apply a firm pressure to ensure good contact with the adhesive. The open time is around 25 minutes at 23 º C. However, highly absorbent substrate or unfavorable weather conditions (high temperature, drying wind, or strong sun) may shorten this open time quite drastically to just a few minutes. Constant checks should be conducted to determine if the mortar is still fresh to the touch and capable of providing good adhesion to the tiles.

Grouting and protection: Wall joints between applied tiles can be grouted after 12 hours and floor joints after 24 hours. All tiling made with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-441 must be protected from direct sun and washout for at least 5 to 7 days after application.

Specifications / Compliance with Standards

BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-441 complies with EN 12004 and 12002 for Tile Adhesives, Class C2TE S1: Improved Cementitious Adhesive with Additional Characteristics, Deformable, Extended Open Time, and Reduced Slip.

Storage

BATIMIX Tile Adhesive WE-441 shelf life is six months from the production date if stored in a closed / dry place.
