Reaction resin tile adhesive

Description

BATIMIX Tile Adhesive R-461 is an ultra-high-performance three-component epoxy product. The powder component (A) is made from a blend of fillers and fine-graded silica sand. The liquid resin (B) and liquid hardener (C) components are specifically proportioned to yield outstanding durability and bonding strength characteristics.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Tile Adhesive R-461 is used inside and outside for fixing large-size natural and reconstructed tiles and stones. It is suitable for residential, public, and industrial structures, which are likely to be subjected to vibrations, extreme flexing, and deforming problems, both inside and outside. It waterproofs and yields enhanced tile joints performance properties.

It is recommended for use on external facades, which exhibit thermic and dimensional variations, active and passive damp, and moisture penetrations.

Application substrates include concrete, cement-based plasters, painted or not, screeds, hollow blocks, and gypsum boards. Tiling over existing tiles is also done, albeit after testing.

Features

BATIMIX Tile Adhesive R461 has the following characteristics:

  • High quality and durable tiling can be achieved in a clean and speedy manner
  • Mixing the 3 components leads to a highly cohesive and easy troweling product with consistently the same fresh and hardened properties
  • Large-size and heavy tiles or stones can be laid on vertical surfaces
  • Limited shrinkage and extremely high bonding and mechanical strengths

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Tile Adhesive R-461 contains liquid epoxy resin and hardener. It may cause eye, skin, and respiratory irritations. Use adequate ventilation. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Wear suitable gloves and goggles. For further information, kindly refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

Substrate preparation: The surface of the substrate must be cured, mechanically strong, dry, and thoroughly cleaned from all dust, loose particles, oil, wax, etc.

Mixing: Empty entire contents of the B and C-liquid components into a clean container, and then add 90% of the A-powder component while mixing continuously for a minimum of 3 minutes. In case a more viscous consistency is desired, add remaining of the A-powder component. Mixing should be done with an electric mixer at a slow speed to avoid increase of product’s temperature and formation of air bubbles.

Application of the mix: Do not spread more than 2 m² of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive R-461 at a time. The product is first applied using any ordinary masonry trowel which should, immediately after, be adjusted to the desired thickness using a toothed trowel. Choose a toothed trowel that will give coverage on the tiles back of at least 80%.

Installing the tiles: All tiles must be dry before installation. For fixing large-size and heavy tiles on vertical surfaces with wide joints, it is advisable to use spacers as they might otherwise sag. Apply a firm pressure to ensure good contact with the adhesive. The open time at 23 ºC is around 25 minutes. However, highly absorbent substrate or unfavorable weather conditions (high temperature, drying wind, or strong sun) may shorten this open time quite drastically.

Grouting and protection: Wall joints between applied tiles can be grouted after 12 hours, and floor joints after 24 hours with any appropriate grout similar to BATIMIX Tile Grout series. All tiling made with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive R-461 must not be subject to washout for at least 24 hours.
