Batimix Tile Adhesive L-430

Holderchem

Latex-based tile adhesive liquid admixture

Description

BATIMIX Tile Adhesive L-430 is a synthetic-rubber latex liquid that is used as "mixing water" with any ready-to-use or on-site prepared cementitious-based mortar designed for bonding tiles onto substrates. It enhances their flexibility, making them particularly suitable for application in areas subjected to slight movements.

Main Purpose

Cementitious-based mortars mixed with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive L-430 are ideal for fixing all types of tiles, including large-size and heavy ones. It is suitable for tilings inside and outside areas, such as bathrooms, kitchens, regular rooms, swimming pools, façades, and terraces. Admissible substrates include concrete, cement-based plasters, whether painted or not, screeds, hollow blocks, and gypsum boards. Tiling over existing tiles can also be done but after testing.

Features

Mortars mixed with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive L-430 are easy to trowel. They exhibit extremely high resistance to sagging if applied to vertical surfaces. The incorporation of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive L-430 increases the bonding properties of tiles against substrates by approximately 30% to 50%, as compared to mortars mixed with ordinary water. The resulting mortars are characterized by an increased degree of flexibility, making them suitable for use whenever thermal or dimensional variations are expected in external facades.

Properties

  • Appearance : liquid
  • Density : around 1.01

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Tile Adhesive L-430 is a synthetic-rubber latex liquid that may cause eye/skin/respiratory irritation. Avoid breathing vapor and wear suitable gloves. For further information, kindly refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

Substrate preparation: The surface of the substrate must be cured, mechanically strong, and thoroughly cleaned from all dust, loose particles, oil, wax, etc. Mortars mixed with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive L-430 work well on dry surfaces, but can also be applied on lightly dampened ones.

Mixing: The dosage of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive L-430 to be incorporated depends on the formulation of the cementitious-based mortar and the desired consistency. Mixing should preferably be done with a slow-speed electric mixer to get a uniform lump free consistency.

Application of the mix: Do not spread more than 1 m² of mortars prepared with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive L-430 at a time. The mortar should be adjusted to the desired thickness using a notched trowel that will give coverage on the tiles back of at least 75% for indoor walls and floors subjected to light foot traffic or 90% for heavy traffic floors and outdoor applications.

Installing the tiles: There is no need to dampen the tiles prior to installation. Apply a firm pressure to ensure good contact with the adhesive. The open time depends directly on the formulation of the cementitious-based mortar. However, highly absorbent substrate or unfavorable weather conditions (high temperature, drying wind, or strong sun) may shorten this open time quite drastically to just a few minutes.

Constant checks should be conducted to determine if the mortar is still fresh to the touch and capable of providing good adhesion to the tiles. In case a surface dried skin has formed on top of the adhesive, it is advisable to re-trowel the mortar with a notched trowel which would help restoring the open time.

Grouting and protection: All grouting depends on the setting and hardening of the mortar, but it is generally done after 6 hours for walls and 24 hours for floors. All tiling made with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive L-430 must be protected from direct sun and washout for at least 5 to 7 days after application.

Specifications / Compliance with Standards

Cementitious-based mortars prepared with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive L-430 conform to EN 12004 standard requirements for Tile Adhesives.

Storage

BATIMIX Tile Adhesive L-430 shelf life is one year from the production date if well stored in a closed dry place. Avoid freezing and excessive temperatures.
