Cementitious tile adhesive with extended open time
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HS-412 is a pre-packaged high strength adhesive designed from a blend of Type I Portland cement, fillers, fine-graded sand, and synthetic additives incorporated to extend the open time and adhesive bond strength.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HS-412 is ideal for fixing a wide range of tiles such as ceramic, mosaic, porcelain, artificial, and natural stones on all types of floors, walls, and ceilings. It is suitable for inside and outside areas like bathrooms, kitchens, regular rooms, balconies, and terraces. Admissible substrates include concrete, cement-based plasters, screeds, polystyrene, hollow blocks, sound-deadening panels, and gypsum boards.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HS-412 has the following characteristics:
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HS-412 is a synthetic-rubber latex liquid that may cause eye/skin/respiratory irritation. Avoid breathing vapor and wear suitable gloves. For further information, kindly refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet.
Substrate preparation: The surface of the substrate must be cured, mechanically strong, and thoroughly cleaned from all dust, loose particles, oil, wax, etc. BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HS-412 works well on dry surfaces, but can also be applied on lightly dampened ones.
Mixing: One 20-kg bag of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HS-412 must be mixed with approximately 3.8 liters of clean water. Mixing should preferably be done with a slow-speed electric mixer for a minimum of 3 minutes to get a uniform lump free consistency. During hot weather, use cold water to increase the open time.
Application of the mix: Do not spread more than 1 m² of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HS-412 at a time. The mortar should be adjusted to the desired thickness using a notched trowel that will give coverage on the tiles back of at least 75% for indoor walls and floors subjected to light foot traffic or 90% for heavy traffic floors and outdoor applications.
Installing the tiles: There is no need to dampen the tiles prior to installation. Apply a firm pressure to ensure good contact with the adhesive. The open time is around 30 minutes at 23 ºC. However, highly absorbent substrate or unfavorable weather conditions (high temperature, drying wind, or strong sun) may shorten this open time quite drastically to just a few minutes.
Constant checks should be conducted to determine if the adhesive is still fresh to the touch and capable of providing good adhesion to the tiles. In case a surface dried skin has formed on top of the adhesive, it is advisable to re-trowel the adhesive with a notched trowel which would help restoring the open time.
Grouting and protection: Wall joints between applied tiles can be grouted after 6 hours, and floor joints after 24 hours with any appropriate grout similar to BATIMIX Tile Grout series. All tiling made with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HS-412 must be protected from direct sun and washout for at least 5 to 7 days after application.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HS-412 is manufactured to comply with EN 12004 for Tile Adhesives of Class C1E: Cementitious Adhesive, Extended Open Time.
Mixing this product with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive L-430 instead of water improves the characteristics to meet the requirements of EN 12004 Class C2E.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HS-412 shelf life is six months from the production date if well stored in a closed dry place. Avoid freezing and excessive temperatures.
