Improved cementitious tile adhesive with additional characteristics
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-421 is a high-performance two-component cementitious-based product. The powder component (A) is designed from Portland cement type I, fillers, fine-graded sand, and special additives. The liquid component (B) is based on synthetic-rubber latex resins for enhancing bonding strength.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-421 is ideal for fixing a wide range of tiles such as ceramic, mosaic, porcelain, artificial, and natural stones on all types of floors, walls, and ceilings. It is used to tile inside and outside areas in bathrooms, kitchens, regular rooms, balconies, terraces ...etc. Admissible substrates include concrete, cement-based plasters, screeds, polystyrene, hollow blocks, sound-deadening panels, and gypsum boards.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-421 has the following characteristics:
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-421 contains cement and liquid irritating to eyes and skin. In case of contact with either eyes or skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water. For further information, kindly refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet.
Substrate preparation: The surface of the substrate must be cured, mechanically strong, and thoroughly cleaned from all dust, loose particles, oil, wax, etc. BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-421 works well on dry surfaces, but can also be applied on lightly dampened ones.
Mixing: Mix the entire A and B components of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-421 with an electric mixer at a slow speed for a minimum of 3 minutes to get a uniform lump free consistency. Adding a small amount of clean water may be done in case a more workable and loose consistency is desired.
Application of the mix: Do not spread more than 1 m² of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-421 at a time. The mortar should be adjusted to the desired thickness using a notched trowel that will give coverage on the tiles back of at least 75% for indoor walls and floors subjected to light foot traffic or 90% for heavy traffic floors and outdoor applications.
Installing the tiles: There is no need to dampen the tiles prior to installation. Apply a firm pressure to ensure good contact with the adhesive. The open time is around 20 minutes at 23 ºC. However, highly absorbent substrate or unfavorable weather conditions (high temperature, drying wind, or strong sun) may shorten this open time quite drastically to just a few minutes.
Constant checks should be conducted to determine if the adhesive is still fresh to the touch and capable of providing good adhesion to the tiles. In case a surface dried skin has formed on top of the adhesive, it is advisable to re-trowel the adhesive with a notched trowel which would help restoring the open time.
Grouting and protection: Wall joints between applied tiles can be grouted after 6 hours, and floor joints after 24 hours with any appropriate grout similar to BATIMIX Tile Grout series. All tiling made with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-421 must be protected from direct sun and washout for at least 5 to 7 days after application.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-421 is manufactured to comply with EN 12004 for Tile Adhesives of Class C2: Improved Cementitious Adhesive with Additional Characteristics.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-421 shelf life is six months from the production date if stored in a closed place.
