Cementitious tile adhesive with reduced slip and extended open time
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-420 is a pre-packaged high-performance adhesive with enhanced properties. It is made from a blend of Portland cement type I, fillers, fine-graded sand, and synthetic additives, which improve the slippage resistance of tiles, damp-proofing, and adhesive bonding strength.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-420 is used to fix all types of tiles, including large-size and heavy ones. It can be used to tile inside and outside areas like bathrooms, kitchens, swimming pools, balconies, and terraces. Admissible substrates include concrete, cement-based plasters, screeds, hollow blocks, and gypsum boards.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-420 is characterised by the following:
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-420 contains cement irritating to eyes and skin. In case of eyes or skin contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Wear suitable gloves. For further information, kindly refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet.
Substrate preparation: The surface of the substrate must be cured, mechanically strong, and thoroughly cleaned from all dust, loose particles, oil, wax, etc. BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-420 works well on dry surfaces, but can also be applied on lightly dampened ones.
Mixing: One 20-kg bag of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-420 must be mixed with approximately 3.8 liters of clean water. Mixing should preferably be done with a slow-speed electric mixer for a minimum of 3 minutes to get a uniform lump free consistency. During hot weather, use cold water to increase the open time.
Application of the mix: Do not spread more than 1 m² of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-420 at a time. The mortar should be adjusted to the desired thickness using a notched trowel that will give coverage on the tiles back of at least 75%, for indoor walls and floors subjected to light foot traffic, or 90% for heavy traffic floors and outdoor applications.
Installing the tiles: There is no need to dampen the tiles prior to installation. Apply a firm pressure to ensure good contact with the adhesive. The open time is around 30 minutes at 23ºC. However, highly absorbent substrate or unfavorable weather conditions (high temperature, drying wind, or strong sun) may shorten this open time quite drastically to just a few minutes.
Constant checks should be conducted to determine if the adhesive is still fresh to the touch and capable of providing good adhesion to the tiles. In case a surface dried skin has formed on top of the adhesive, it is advisable to re-trowel the adhesive with a notched trowel, which would help restoring the open time.
Grouting and protection: Wall joints between applied tiles can be grouted after 6 hours, and floor joints after 24 hours with any appropriate grout similar to BATIMIX Tile Grout series. All tiling made with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-420 must be protected from direct sun and washout for at least 5 to 7 days after application.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-420 is manufactured to comply with EN 12004 for Tile Adhesives of Class C1TE: Normal Setting Cementitious Adhesive with Reduced Slip, Extended Open Time.
Mixing this product with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive L-430 instead of water improves the characteristics to meet the requirements of EN 12004 Class C2TE, and those of EN 12002 Class S2 for deformable adhesives.
BATIMIX Tile Adhesive HP-420 shelf life is six months from the production date, if well stored in a closed dry place. Avoid freezing and excessive temperatures.
