Batimix Tile Adhesive F-453

Holderchem

Improved cementitious tile adhesive with additional characteristics and fast setting

Description

BATIMIX Tile Adhesive F-453 is a high performance two-component cementitious-based product with accelerated setting and hydration properties. The powder component (A) is made of Portland cement type I, fillers, fine-graded sand, synthetic resins, and special additives designed to accelerate setting. The liquid component (B) is based on synthetic-rubber latex for improving bonding strength.

Main Purpose

Batimix Tile Adhesive F-453 is designed for use in structures that have to be ready for use within short periods of time (around 5 hours) such as supermarkets, factories, hospitals, and airports. It is also used for inside and outside fixing of large-size natural or reconstructed tiles and stones where high performance and fast setting properties are required. Admissible substrates include concrete, cement-based plasters, screeds, hollow blocks, polystyrene, sound-deadening panels, and gypsum boards. Tiling over existing tiles can also be done, but after testing.

Features

  • High quality tiling work can be achieved in a clean and speedy manner
  • Mixing the A and B components leads to an easy troweling product with consistent fresh and hardened properties
  • Large and heavy tiles can be laid on vertical surfaces with minimum slippage
  • Accelerated setting and hardening of the adhesive with increased bonding characteristics

Health and Safety

Two-component BATIMIX Tile Adhesive F-453 contains cement and liquid irritating to eyes and skin. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. For further information, kindly refer to Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

Substrate preparation: The surface of the substrate must be cured, mechanically strong, and thoroughly cleaned from all dust, loose particles, oil, wax, etc. BATIMIX Tile Adhesive F-453 works well on dry surfaces, but can also be applied on lightly dampened ones.

Mixing: Mix the entire A and B components of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive F-453 with an electric mixer at a slow speed for a minimum of 3 minutes to get a uniform lump free consistency. Adding a small amount of clean water may be done in case a more workable and loose consistency is desired.

Application of the mix: Do not spread more than 1 m² of BATIMIX Tile Adhesive F-453 at a time. The mortar should be adjusted to the desired thickness using a notched trowel that will give coverage on the tiles back of at least 75% for indoor walls and floors subjected to light foot traffic or 90% for heavy traffic floors and outdoor applications.

Installing the tiles: There is no need to dampen the tiles prior to installation. Apply a firm pressure to ensure good contact with the adhesive. The open time is around 15 minutes at 23 ºC. However, highly absorbent substrate or unfavorable weather conditions (high temperature, drying wind, or strong sun) may shorten this open time quite drastically to just a few minutes.

Constant checks should be conducted to determine if the mortar is still fresh to the touch and capable of providing good adhesion to the tiles. In case a surface dried skin has formed on top of the adhesive, it is advisable to re-trowel the mortar with a notched trowel which would help restoring the open time.

Grouting and protection: Wall joints between applied tiles can be grouted after 2 to 4 hours, and floor joints after 3 to 5 hours with any appropriate grout similar to BATIMIX Tile Grout series. All tiling made with BATIMIX Tile Adhesive F-453 must be protected from direct sun and washout for at least 3 to 5 days after application.
