Liquid surface retarder for concrete
BATIMIX Surface Retarder 730 is based on modified gluconate chemicals used to retard the setting of top concrete layers. It exposes the aggregate solid particles of structures after concrete surface washing.
BATIMIX Surface Retarder 730 is used for architectural purposes to expose aggregate particles and exhibit the concrete structure. It is also used for producing a mechanical key with good bonding properties for subsequent cementitious or resin applications. Applications using this product include all types of plain and reinforced concrete, whether precast or prepared on-site.
BATIMIX Surface Retarder 730 has the following characteristics:
BATIMIX Surface Retarder 730 is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.
BATIMIX Surface Retarder 730 should be well stirred before use. Its optimum dosage is best determined by trials using the actual type of formwork and concrete mix design under field conditions. As a guide to such trials, the coverage rates shall vary from 3 to 8 m² per 1 kg of product.
Over applications with BATIMIX Surface Retarder 730 should be avoided as this would lead to extra retardation of the concrete surface. The optimum quantity to be applied should correspond to a thin, but evenly covering film.
BATIMIX Surface Retarder 730 is compatible with all types of Portland cement, whether white or grey, as well as with any replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag.
BATIMIX Surface Retarder 730 may be applied by brush, roller, spray, or cloth to suit the desired application on any kind of clean, dry, and oil free formwork. The applied film must have dried for at least 2 hours prior to the placing of the concrete. The age of the film does not influence the efficiency of the product. On the contrary, as the film ages, it becomes more abrasion and weather resistant. The film must be protected against excessive exposure to sunlight.
After removal of the formwork, usually after 1 or 2 days depending on the mix design and prevailing temperature, the concrete surface should be washed with a jet of water or brushed manually to expose the aggregate particles. Any residues of BATIMIX Surface Retarder 730 can easily be removed from the dry formwork using a scraper or a wire brush.
Holderchem provides, upon request, complete technical support and on-site assistance to enable correct and effective use of its products.
BATIMIX Surface Retarder 730 has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
