Latex bonding agent for shotcrete
BATIMIX SBR Type II is a liquid water-based dispersion styrene-butadiene polymer with high bonding characteristics for use with shotcrete.
BATIMIX SBR Type II is used to modify cementitious-based systems by significantly increasing adhesion, bonding, and flexural strength of cementitious-based materials while enhancing resistance to abrasion, flexibility, and chemical attack without affecting water vapor transmission.
Shotcrete made with BATIMIX SBR Type II results in improved bonding characteristics to almost all sound surfaces.
Applications include all types of cementitious-based mixtures used for construction works such as repair, masonry, plastering, rendering, patching, pointing, bricklaying, and screeding.
Mixtures prepared with BATIMIX SBR Type II are characterized by the following:
In the plastic state:
In the hardened state:
BATIMIX SBR Type II is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.
Prior to any application, all cementitious-based substrates should be sound, clean, and in a saturated surface dry condition (SSD condition) with no standing water.
As an admixture (mixing solution): Depending on the type of application and desired bonding strength, one part of BATIMIX SBR Type II may be diluted with 1, 2, or 3 parts of water prior to its mixing in the concrete or mortar. The characteristics of the final products are best assessed by trials using the actual mix design with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in the field.
As a primer: Apply undiluted BATIMIX SBR Type II to prepared substrates using brushes, rollers, soft brooms, or spray. Estimated coverage ratio is 2 to 3 kg/m². Very porous concrete may require a second coat of this product to seal the surface. The treated surface may have “tacky” state prior to any mortar application.
When used as a mixing solution, an overdose of BATIMIX SBR Type II will generally produce a viscous mix together with a slight reduction in the early strength gain
BATIMIX SBR Type II is compatible with all types of Portland cement, replacement materials such as silica fume, and other Holderchem admixtures incorporated in the same mixture. During batching, all admixtures should be added separately to the concrete, mortar, or grout. The performance of various admixtures on the fresh and hardened properties should be assessed using trial tests.
When used as a mixing solution, BATIMIX SBR Type II should be mixed with water, and thereby dispensed in the mixture as normally done.
For proper products usage, Holderchem provides complete technical laboratory support and on-site assistance pertaining to the mortar mix design, admixture selection, and trial tests.
BATIMIX SBR Type II has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
