Batimix SBR Latex M-900

Holderchem

S.B.R. bonding emulsion

Description

BATIMIX SBR Latex M-900 is a liquid water-based styrene-butadiene polymer dispersion with high bonding characteristics for use with mortars and grouts.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX SBR Latex M-900 increases adhesion, bonding, and flexural strength of sand/cement and sand/lime/cement mixtures, enhancing resistance to abrasion, chemical attack, and water vapor transmission.

BATIMIX SBR Latex M-900 allows plastering and rendering mortars to be bonded to almost any sound surface without the necessity to hack or score to form a mechanical key. Applications include all types of mortars and grouts used for masonry and repair works such as plastering, rendering, patching, pointing, bricklaying, and screeding.

Features

Mixtures prepared with BATIMIX SBR Latex M-900 are characterized by the following:

In the plastic state:

  • Ease of spread without adding extra water
  • Reduced segregation and bleeding
  • Normal setting characteristics under cool conditions

In the hardened state:

  • Enhanced bonding, adhesion, and flexibility properties
  • Increased strengths – compressive and flexural
  • Reduced water permeability, porosity, and cracking
  • Improved mortar durability and surface appearance

Properties

  • Appearance: white liquid
  • Specific gravity: around 1.01 at 23 ºC
  • Chloride content: nil
  • Air entrainment: up to 1% at normal dosages
  • Freezing point: 0 ºC

Health and Safety

BATIMIX SBR Latex M-900 is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.

Dosage Rates

Prior to any application, all cementitious-based substrates should be sound, clean, and in a saturated surface dry condition (SSD condition) with no standing water.

As an admixture (mixing solution): Depending on the type of application and desired bonding strength, one part of BATIMIX SBR Latex M-900 may be diluted with 1, 2, or 3 parts of water prior to its mixing in the concrete or mortar. The characteristics of the final products are best assessed by trials using the actual mix design with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in the field.

As a primer: Apply undiluted BATIMIX SBR Latex M-900 to prepared substrates using brushes, rollers, soft brooms, or spray. Estimated coverage ratio is 2 to 3 kg/m². Very porous concrete may require a second coat of this product to seal the surface. The treated surface may have “tacky” state prior to any mortar application.

Effect of Overdosing

When used as a mixing solution, an overdose of BATIMIX SBR Latex M-900 will generally produce a viscous mix together with a slight reduction in the early strength gain.

Compatibility

BATIMIX SBR Latex M-900 is compatible with all types of Portland cement, replacement materials such as silica fume, and other Holderchem admixtures incorporated in the same mixture. During batching, all admixtures should be added separately to the concrete, mortar, or grout. The performance of various admixtures on the fresh and hardened properties should be assessed using trial tests.

Dispensing

When used as a mixing solution, BATIMIX SBR Latex M-900 should be mixed with water, and thereby dispensed in the mixture as normally done.

Technical Support

For proper products usage, Holderchem provides complete technical laboratory support and on-site assistance pertaining to the mortar mix design, admixture selection, and trial tests.

Storage

BATIMIX SBR Latex M-900 has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
