Set-retarding, plasticizing, and slump retention admixture for concrete
BATIMIX Retarder 230 is a synthetically produced liquid set-retarding admixture for concrete based on modified gluconate organics blended with selected plasticizing and slump retention polymers. It does not contain any potentially corroding ingredient that could attack steel, aluminum, or zinc embedments.
BATIMIX Retarder 230 delays setting times, increasing both workability and slump retention required for proper concrete placing and finishing operations, particularly in hot climates. It is required for concrete that needs to be transported over long distances. It keeps the concrete from hardening should delivery schedules be lengthened by traffic jams.
BATIMIX Retarder 230 improves slump retention over time, eliminating cold joints between adjacent concrete layers. It is particularly suitable for large concrete-pours and slow casting rates.
It is used to produce plain and reinforced concrete castings such as precast, ready-mixed, lightweight, structural, and architectural, with a delayed setting. It is also used to enhance the flowability of pumped concrete.
Concrete prepared with BATIMIX Retarder 230 is characterized by the following:
In the plastic state:
In the hardened state:
BATIMIX Retarder 230 is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.
BATIMIX Retarder 230 complies with the following standards: • EN 934-2 : T8 • ASTM C 494 Type B
The optimum dosage of BATIMIX Retarder 230 on the rate of setting and hardening should be determined by trials using the actual concrete formulation under conditions that will be experienced on the field. As a guide to such trials, the addition rates shall vary from 0.2% to 0.8% of the cementitious materials. Dosages outside the specified range may also be used if necessary to meet particular mix requirements.
It is to be noted that the free water content should be reduced when designing concrete mixes with BATIMIX Retarder 230 to maintain similar W/C.
An overdose of BATIMIX Retarder 230 will produce a significant slump retention and increase in setting retardation as compared to that normally obtained. However, if the concrete is properly cured, the ultimate strength will not be impaired by such setting retardations.
BATIMIX Retarder 230 is compatible with all other Batimix admixtures incorporated in the same concrete. During batching, all admixtures should be added separately to the concrete mix as this may alter their performances. BATIMIX Retarder 230 is compatible with all types of Portland cement and replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag.
Automatic dispensing systems should preferably be used to introduce the correct quantity of BATIMIX Retarder 230 in the concrete mixer. This admixture should not be directly introduced on the dry cement. It should rather be added after incorporating around 2/3 of the mixing water, and in any case prior to introducing other chemicals such as water reducers.
For proper products usage, Holderchem provides complete technical and laboratory support as well as on-site assistance pertaining to concrete mix design, admixture selection, materials testing, and dispensing equipment.
BATIMIX Retarder 230 has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
