Two-component epoxy-based corrosion inhibiting agent
BATIMIX Rebar-Protect 920 is a two-component corrosion inhibitor based on epoxy polyamine resins. It is used in construction, repair, and rehabilitation works. It is highly recommended for the protection of exposed steel reinforcements. It can be used in conjunction with all BATIMIX concrete repair products.
BATIMIX Rebar-Protect 920 is designed for professional use in industrial and commercial applications resisting corrosion within the repair area. It can also protect very well all steel, iron, galvanised, and metal surfaces.
BATIMIX Rebar Protect 920 has the following characteristics:
BATIMIX Rebar-Protect 920 contains resin chemicals, thus should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.
1 – Steel preparation The exposed steel should be thoroughly inspected and any corroded steel must be removed by appropriate abrasive blast cleaning means. The abrasive blast should be carried out in accordance with state-of-the art procedures. All surface defects revealed by the blast cleaning should be ground, filled, and treated in a suitable manner. Round off rough welds and sharp edges and remove weld spatter.
After ensuring all scale and corrosion deposits are eliminated, the application of BATIMIX Rebar-Protect 920 can then proceed. It is important to note that if corrosion is due to chlorides attack, the steel must be high pressure washed following the blasting cleaning.
2 – Application The application of BATIMIX Rebar-Protect 920 should start when the steel surfaces are completely dry. Stir for a minimum of 3 minutes the A and B components, as delivered. The mixing A:B ratio is 3:1 (where A is the resin component, and B is hardener). Mix enough materials that can be applied within 1 hour at 23ºC.
Apply the product in one full and unbroken coat, ensuring that all of the exposed steel is fully coated (take care of the back side of the steel). Should there be any doubt in achieving an unbroken coating, apply a second coat as soon as the first one is dry, i.e. normally after 2 to 4 hours after first application depending on climatic conditions.
BATIMIX Rebar-Protect 920 can be applied using conventional brush or roller tools. A spray gun or agitated air spray pot suitable for touch-up of small areas can also be used.
BATIMIX Rebar-Protect 920 should preferably be applied when steel surface temperatures are between 28 and 42ºC. Do not apply if rain is threatening.
3 – Curing / Limitations BATIMIX Rebar-Protect 920 will not cure properly if ambient temperature is below 2ºC. For maximum performance, temperatures should be greater than 10ºC.
Tests have shown that using BATIMIX Rebar-Protect 920 at overdosed thicknesses will not lead to additional rebar protection.
BATIMIX Rebar-Protect 920 is compatible with all types of Portland cement, replacement materials such as silica fume, and other Batimix admixtures used in the same repair system.
For proper products usage, Holderchem provides complete technical laboratory support and on-site assistance pertaining to the mortar mix design, admixture selection, and trial tests.
BATIMIX Rebar-Protect 920 has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50ºC.
