Set-retarding admixture for mortars and grouts
BATIMIX MR 600 is a synthetically produced set-retarding admixture for mortars and grouts based on selected gluconate modified organic polymers. It does not contain any corroding ingredient that could potentially attack steel, aluminum, or zinc embedments.
BATIMIX MR 600 is designed to delay mortar setting times and provide prolonged workability retention necessary for application and finishing operations, particularly in hot climates. Extended setting times are also sought to eliminate cold joints between adjacent mortar layers.
Applications using BATIMIX MR 600 include all types of mortars and grouts used for masonry and repair works such as plastering, rendering, patching, pointing, bricklaying, and screeding.
Mortars prepared with BATIMIX MR 600 are characterized by the following:
In the plastic state:
In the hardened state:
BATIMIX MR 600 is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.
BATIMIX MR 600 complies with EN 934 Part 3.
The optimum dosage of BATIMIX MR 600 on workability retention, setting times, and hardening is best determined by trials using the actual mortar formulation with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in the field.
In general, the addition rates of BATIMIX MR 600 shall vary from 0.3% to 1.5% of the cementitious materials. However, higher dosages reaching 2.5% of the cementitious materials may still be used, in case extended-life mortars are being produced.
When designing mortar mixes with BATIMIX MR 600, it is necessary to reduce the free water content to maintain similar W/C and compressive strength.
An overdose of BATIMIX MR 600 will produce an increase in mortar workability with significantly higher consistency retention and setting retardation as compared to that normally obtained. However, if the mortar is properly cured, the ultimate strength will not be impaired by such setting retardation.
BATIMIX MR 600 is compatible with all types of Portland cement, replacement materials such as silica fume, and other Batimix admixtures incorporated in the same mortar. During batching, all admixtures should be added separately to the mortar mix. The performance of various admixtures should be assessed using trial tests as such combinations may alter setting times, air entrainment, and early strength gain.
BATIMIX MR 600 should not be directly added on the dry cement. It should rather be added after incorporating around 2/3 of the mixing water, and in any case prior to introducing other chemicals such as water reducers.
For proper products usage, Holderchem provides technical laboratory support and on-site assistance pertaining to the mortar mix design, admixture selection, and materials testing.
BATIMIX MR 600 has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
