Waterproofing slurry for sewage treatment plants
BATIMIX Mortar W-821 Z is a surface-applied cementitious-based material. It is resistant to water and moisture and used in sewage purification plants for sealing against groundwater containing sulfate. It is made from Type V Portland cement, carefully-graded sand, and a combination of selected waterproofing additives.
BATIMIX Mortar W-821 Z is employed against active or passive water pressure surfaces. Its adhesion strength is excellent, making it suitable for application to horizontal as well as vertical surfaces. It is durable and resistant to frost and heat after setting.
Batimix Mortar W 821-Z is used for waterproofing applications of basement retaining walls, concrete slabs (roof, balcony, …), channels, bridges, construction joints, swimming pools, and water retaining structures.
BATIMIX Mortar W 821-Z has the following characteristics:
BATIMIX Mortar W-821 Z contains cement that is irritating to the eyes and skin. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Wear suitable gloves. For further information, kindly refer to the product's Material Safety Data Sheet.
1 – Substrate preparation All concrete to be treated with BATIMIX Mortar W-821 Z must have an “open” capillary system.
For optimum bonding and performance, sandblast the concrete surfaces and then remove all dust and debris by air blasting, low pressure water blasting, or brooming. Faulty concrete in the form of cracks, honeycombing, etc. must be chased out and filled flush with BATIMIX Mortar W-860.
Prior to application, the substrate should be saturated but free of standing water (SSD condition).
2 – Product preparation Depending on the method of application (trowel, brush, or spray), a 25-kg bag of BATIMIX Mortar W-821 Z should be mixed with 6 to 9 liters of clean water. The mixing should be done with a medium-speed mechanical mixer for a minimum of 3 minutes until obtaining a consistent homogenous material.
Mix only as much material as can be used within 20 minutes and stir mixture frequently. If the mixture starts to set, do not add water, but restir to restore workability.
3 – Application Apply BATIMIX Mortar W-821 Z in one or two coats according to specification by masonry brush or appropriate power spray equipment. When two coats are specified, apply the second coat while the first one is still “green”. A maximum of 4 kg/m² can be laid on one application.
Note – Do not apply BATIMIX Mortar W-821 Z when the ambient temperature is below + 5 ºC.
4 – Consumption Ground moisture – BATIMIX Mortar W-821 Z should be applied at a minimum thickness of 1.5 mm (max. of 5 mm) at approximately 3 kg/m².
Commonly surfaces subjected to high humidity levels (pressure-less) – BATIMIX Mortar W-821 Z should be applied at a minimum thickness of 2 mm (max. of 5 mm) at approximately 4 kg/m².
Surfaces subjected to water under pressure – BATIMIX Mortar W-821 Z should be applied at a minimum thickness of 3 mm (max. of 5 mm) at approximately 6 kg/m².
5 – Curing The treated areas with BATIMIX Mortar W-821 Z should be kept wet for a period of 5 days and must be protected against sun, wind, and frost by covering with polythene sheeting, damp hessian, or similar.
BATIMIX Mortar W-821 Z should be stored in a closed and dry place. Avoid freezing and excessive temperatures. Unopened bags have a shelf life of six months when stored as recommended.
