Batimix Mortar W-820

Holderchem

Efflorescence-free surface waterproofer

Description

BATIMIX Mortar W-820 is an efflorescence-free surface-applied cementitious-based material, which waterproofs and protects concrete. It is made from Portland cement, carefully-graded sand, and a combination of selected waterproofing additives.

BATIMIX Mortar W-820 can be used on surfaces that must withstand both active or passive water pressure. Its bonding adhesion strength is excellent, making it suitable for application on both horizontal and vertical surfaces. It is durable, resistant to frost and heat after setting.

Main Purpose

Primary applications include waterproofing of basement retaining walls, channels, bridges, construction joints, swimming pools, water retaining structures, and concrete slabs such as roofs and balconies.

Features

BATIMIX Mortar W-820 has the following characteristics:

  • Ready-to-use, ensuring consistent properties of the fresh and hardened product
  • Applied to all structurally sound pressure and non-pressure concrete surfaces whether new or old
  • Strong adhesion to substrates
  • Very-low water absorption, yet increased water vapor transmission
  • Improved durability with a high quality finished texture

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Mortar W-820 contains cement that is irritating to the eyes and skin. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Wear suitable gloves. For further information, kindly refer to the product's Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

1 – Substrate preparation All concrete to be treated with BATIMIX Mortar W-820 must have an “open” capillary system.

For optimum bonding and performance, sandblast the concrete surfaces and then remove all dust and debris by air blasting, low pressure water blasting, or brooming. Faulty concrete in the form of cracks, honeycombing, etc. must be chased out and filled flush with BATIMIX Mortar W-820.

Prior to application, the substrate should be saturated but free of standing water (SSD condition).

2 – Product preparation Depending on the method of application (trowel, brush, or spray), a 25-kg bag of BATIMIX Mortar W-820 should be mixed with 6 to 9 liters of clean water. The mixing should be done with a medium-speed mechanical mixer for a minimum of 3 minutes until obtaining a consistent homogenous material. It is advisable

Mix only as much material as can be used within 20 minutes and stir mixture frequently. If the mixture starts to set, do not add water, but restir to restore workability.

3 – Application Apply BATIMIX Mortar W-820 in one or two coats according to specification by masonry brush or appropriate power spray equipment. When two coats are specified, apply the second coat while the first one is still “green”. A maximum of 4 kg/m² can be laid on one application.

Note – Do not apply BATIMIX Mortar W-820 when the ambient temperature is below + 5 ºC.

4 – Consumption Ground moisture – BATIMIX Mortar W-820 should be applied at a minimum thickness of 1.5 mm (max. of 5 mm) at approximately 3 kg/m².

Commonly surfaces subjected to high humidity levels (pressure-less) – BATIMIX Mortar W-820 should be applied at a minimum thickness of 2 mm (max. of 5 mm) at approximately 4 kg/m².

Surfaces subjected to water under pressure – BATIMIX Mortar W-820 should be applied at a minimum thickness of 3 mm (max. of 5 mm) at approximately 6 kg/m².

5 – Curing The treated areas with BATIMIX Mortar W-820 should be kept wet for a period of 5 days and must be protected against sun, wind, and frost by covering with polythene sheeting, damp hessian, or similar.

Storage

BATIMIX Mortar W-820 should be stored in a closed and dry place. Avoid freezing and excessive temperatures. Unopened bags have a shelf life of six months when stored as recommended.
