In-depth waterproofing slurry by crystallization
BATIMIX Mortar W-800 is a surface-applied cementitious-based material, which waterproofs and protects concrete in-depth. It is made from Portland cement, carefully-graded sand, and a combination of selected additives, including water-reducers, surfactants, anti-foams, emulsifiers, water-repellents, and crystallization chemicals.
When applied to carefully prepared substrates, the active chemicals of BATIMIX Mortar W-800 react with the free lime and moisture present in the capillary pores of the concrete to form insoluble crystalline complexes. The so-formed crystals block the capillaries and minor cracks to prevent any further water ingress.
BATIMIX Mortar W-800 allows the passage of water vapor through the concrete. It can thus be applied against active and passive water pressure surfaces.
BATIMIX Mortar W-800 may be used in conjunction with BATIMIX Mortar W-810 on vertical and horizontal concrete and masonry surfaces in various applications, such as basement retaining walls, channels, bridges, construction joints, swimming pools, water retaining structures, and concrete slabs including roofs and balconies.
BATIMIX Mortar W-800 has the following characteristics:
BATIMIX Mortar W-800 contains cement that is irritating to the eyes and skin. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Wear suitable gloves. For further information, kindly refer to the product's Material Safety Data Sheet.
1 – Substrate preparation All concrete to be treated with BATIMIX Mortar W-800 must have an “open” capillary system.
For optimum bonding and performance, sandblast the concrete surfaces and then remove all dust and debris by air blasting, low pressure water blasting, or brooming. Faulty concrete in the form of cracks, honeycombing, etc. must be chased out, and filled flush with BATIMIX Mortar W-860.
Prior to application, the substrate should be saturated but free of standing water (SSD condition).
2 – Product preparation A 25-kg bag of BATIMIX Mortar W-800 should be mixed with 8 to 10 liters of clean water, depending on the desired consistency. The mixing should be done with a medium-speed mechanical mixer for a minimum of 3 minutes until obtaining a consistent homogenous material lump-free and similar to a thick oil paint.
Mix only as much material as can be used within 20 minutes and stir mixture frequently. If the mixture starts to set, do not add water, but restir to restore workability.
3 – Application Slurry consistency – Apply BATIMIX Mortar W-800 in one or two coats according to specification by masonry brush or appropriate power spray equipment. When two coats are specified, apply the second coat while the first one is still “green”.
Dry powder consistency (for horizontal surfaces only) – The specified amount of BATIMIX Mortar W-800 is distributed in powder form through a sieve and trowelled into the freshly placed concrete once reaching the initial setting.
Note – Do not apply BATIMIX Mortar W-800 when the ambient temperature is below + 5 ºC.
4 – Consumption Concrete surfaces to be backfilled: one coat of BATIMIX Mortar W-800 at 1 kg/m2 followed by one coat of BATIMIX Mortar W-810 at 1 kg/m2.
Water retaining structures, internal concrete wall surfaces: two coats of BATIMIX Mortar W-800 at 0.75 kg/m², spray or brush applied.
Concrete slabs: at a rate of 1.3 kg/m², BATIMIX Mortar W-800 may be applied as slurry to hardened concrete, or dry sprinkled and trowelled to fresh concrete when reaching initial set.
Construction joints: BATIMIX Mortar W-800 should be applied at 1.5 kg/m².
Blinding concrete: BATIMIX Mortar W-800 should be applied at a rate of 1.3 kg/m², in slurry or dry powder immediately prior to placing the overlaying concrete slab.
5 – Curing The treated areas with BATIMIX Mortar W-800 should be kept wet for a period of 5 days and must be protected against sun, wind, and frost by covering with polythene sheeting, damp hessian, or similar.
BATIMIX Mortar W-800 should be stored in a closed and dry place. Avoid freezing and excessive temperatures. Unopened bags have a shelf life of six months when stored as recommended.
