Batimix Mortar SC-690

Holderchem

Two-component, thin-layer cementitious compound

Description

BATIMIX Mortar SC-690 is a two-component, polymer-modified, cementitious compound applied in thin layers, whether on new or worn concrete substrates. It promotes excellent adhesion, toughness, and long-term durability together with high resistance to moisture penetration and degradation due to hydrolysis

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Mortar SC-690 features include excellent adhesion, toughness, and long-term durability. It can be applied in interior and exterior applications and can be integrally colored to meet high-standard specifier demands.

Features

When applied to sound structures, BATIMIX Mortar SC-690 levels the surface. It blocks capillaries and minor shrinkage cracks preventing any further water ingress under active or passive water pressure. The product is characterized by the following:

  • Strong adhesion to substrates
  • High workability
  • Relative rate of water absorption (ASTM C 1403) about 20 times lower than reference mixture made, without active waterproofing chemicals
  • Modulus of elasticity (ASTM D 638) about 8 times lower than reference mixture made without synthetic resins. It, therefore, bridges elongation of cracks up to 30% at 23 ºC.

Properties

  • Appearance : component A: powder et component B: liquid
  • Bulk density : Component A: around 1.51, component B: around 1.05
  • Grain size: 0 to 1 mm
  • Rate of water absorption at 28 d (ASTM C 1403) : 2.4 grams / m²
  • Compressive strength after 28 days (ASTM C 109): > 25 MPa, due to elasticity
  • Flexural strength after 28 days (ASTM C 348): > 7 MPa, due to elasticity
  • Pull-off strength against concrete at 28 days (EN 1015-12): 1.1 MPa
  • Modulus of elasticity at 28 d (ASTM D 638): 12,500 MPa

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Mortar SC-690 contains cement and irritating chemicals that may harm the eyes and skin. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Wear suitable gloves. For further information, kindly refer to Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

1 – Substrate preparation The concrete or masonry surface to be treated with BATIMIX Mortar SC-690 must be clean and have an “open” capillary system. Remove dirt, grease, laitance, etc. that can affect uniform adhesion by means of high pressure water jetting, wet sandblasting, or wire brushing. Prior to application, treated surfaces should be slightly dampened.

2 – Product preparation Mix the A and B components (25-kg powder and 8-kg liquid) correctly and thoroughly by adding the liquid component to the powder component until homogenous fluid slurry paste is obtained. In case higher fluidity is required, additional amounts of clean water may be added to the mix. The mixing should preferably be done with a mechanical stirrer for at least 3 minutes. Prepare a quantity of product as much as can be applied in 20 minutes at 23 ºC.

3 – Application Apply a first coat of BATIMIX Mortar SC-690 of a thickness of not less than 2 mm using a masonry brush or roller. A masonry trowel may also be used in case of plastic consistency. The slurry should be distributed evenly by working it well into the surface and making it intimately adhere to the treated area. When specified, apply a second coat of around 1 mm after not less than 24 hours. The approximate coverage varies from 13 to 16 m² per 33 kg of product, depending on the type and porosity of the substrate.

4 – Curing The treated surface with BATIMIX Mortar SC-690 should be cured and protected against rain, sun, wind, and frost for a minimum of 3 days. Careful post-watering should be carried out at intervals of at least twice each 24 hours, starting the day following the application.

Specifications / Compliance with Standards

BATIMIX Mortar SC-690 exceeds the requirements of ASTM C 387 for Standard specification for packaged, dry, combined materials for mortar and concrete to suit specific product’s application requirements.

Storage

BATIMIX Mortar SC-690 should be stored in a closed and dry place. Avoid freezing and excessive temperatures. Unopened bags and pails have a minimum shelf life of six months when stored as recommended.
