Wear-resistant floor mortar for concrete toppings

Description

BATIMIX Mortar 740 is a pre-packaged mortar made of Type I Portland cement, selected additives, and tough, carefully graded aggregates. It is designed to yield high resistance to abrasion and impact conditions, providing excellent floor surface durability required in high traffic areas.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Mortar 740 is used for both interior and exterior surfaces. Primary applications include industrial floors, high traffic roads, lobbies, waiting rooms of commercial and public buildings, corridors, restaurants, auto showrooms, service centers, factories, and warehouse floors and facilities.

Features

BATIMIX Mortar 740 has the following characteristics:

  • Easy to use, pumpable, requiring only the addition of water
  • Increased resistance against abrasion, wear, impact, and water permeability
  • Enables a decrease in shrinkage, fissures, and surface cracks
  • Significant increase of surface strength and adhesion properties
  • Provides a dense surface to resist the penetration of oil, grease, and other liquids

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Mortar740 contains cement that is irritating to the eyes and skin. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Wear suitable gloves. For further information, kindly refer to Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

1 – Substrate preparation The surface over which BATIMIX Mortar 740 is to be placed must be free of all loose dust, dirt, debris, and unsound concrete. The surface texture must have a profile of 5 mm or more to increased adhesion. The best methods for roughening are scabbling and milling. Concrete that cannot be properly cleaned and textured should be profiled and anchored with mechanical studs to assure an integral bond. BATIMIX Mortar 740 may be placed monolithically on fresh concrete.

2 – Bonding In case of monolithic placement, the surface of fresh concrete must be “tined” to provide a profile of 1 mm and a series of 30 mm long nail-type anchors, each protruding around 15 mm into the subsequent topping. BATIMIX Mortar 740 may be placed anytime within the 24 hours following casting. Do not use over air-entrained concrete when placing is to be made monolithically.

In case the product is to be placed over existing concrete, proper surface preparation is necessary (preferably, a bonding agent should be applied to secure good adhesion). Kindly refer to Holderchem representatives to select a suitable bonding agent. The maximum allowable thicknesses should not exceed 30 mm; in case of higher thicknesses, it is recommended to mix each 25-kg bag with 7.5 to 12.5 kg of 10-mm coarse aggregates. The aggregates should be of proper quality and hardness (i.e., 75-μm fine particles less than 0.5% and Los Angeles abrasion less than 30%).

3 – Product preparation A 25-kg bag of BATIMIX Mortar 740 should be mixed with 3.75 to 4.25 liters of clean water, depending on the desired consistency. Do not use water at a rate that will cause bleeding or segregation. The mixing should be done with a medium-speed mechanical mixer for a minimum of 3 minutes until obtaining a consistent homogenous material.

4 – Application BATIMIX Mortar 740 can be placed by direct discharge, buggy, wheelbarrow, or pump. Working time is approximately 30 minutes at 23ºC, and consumption rates may vary from 14 to 18 kg/m²/cm. Tools such as rollers and trowels may be used to assist placement. Typical application depths can vary from 5 to 20 mm.

5 – Finishing Finish the applied BATIMIX Mortar 740 mortar to the desired texture. It is to be noted that maximum abrasion resistance can be realized with a hard, smooth steel trowel finish. Do not add additional water to the surface during the finishing operations.

6 – Curing Like all cementitious-based systems, BATIMIX Mortar 740 requires curing to ensure durability, minimum cracking, and high performance of the finished product. It is recommended to wet cure with water the surface as soon as possible after placement for a minimum of 3 days. Curing compounds may also be used.
