Batimix Mortar 705

Holderchem

Ultra high-performance polymer modified self-levelling/non-shrink grout

Description

Pre-packaged BATIMIX Mortar 705 is an ultra high-performance self-levelling material designed for easy application over concrete floors as an underlayment for subsequent placement of floor coverings. It is also suitable for use as a repair and leveling course product.

BATIMIX Mortar 705 is formulated with Type I Portland cement, selected additives, and carefully-graded sand requiring only the addition of water prior to use.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Mortar 705 is specially designed to flow easily if mixed with water. It requires minimum energy for consolidation and levelling. It is used for various structures, interior and exterior sound concrete sub-surfaces of unlevelled floors and wood floors. It is also used to repair old concrete.

Features

BATIMIX Mortar 705 has the following characteristics:

  • Easy to use, suitable for both interior and exterior concrete floors
  • Pumpable using standard equipment
  • Self-leveling for smooth and flat slabs
  • Reduced bleeding and sagging
  • Minimal shrinkage for reduced cracking
  • High early and final compressive strength
  • High degree of adhesion and bonding to the substrate

Properties

  • Appearance: Grey powder
  • Bulk density: Around 1.40
  • Grain size: 0 to 2 mm
  • Wet mix life: Around 20 minutes at 23 °C
  • Compressive strength after 28 days (ASTM C 109): Minimum 60 MPa
  • Flexural strength at 28 days (ASTM C 348): Minimum 10.5 MPa
  • Pull-off strength against concrete at 28 days (EN 1015-12): Minimum 2 MPa

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Mortar 705 contains cement that is irritating to the eyes and skin. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. For further information, kindly refer to the product's Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

1 – Substrate preparation Concrete to be in contact with BATIMIX Mortar 705 must be structurally sound and fully cured. Acid etching is acceptable only when mechanical preparation is impractical. All treated concrete surfaces must possess an open texture with all curing compounds and sealers removed.

Prior to application, all surfaces must be free from dust, oil, grease, or any other foreign substance that may interfere with the bond of the material. Remove all loose or delaminated sand and rock. Moisturise the area with clean water, leaving the substrate saturated but free of standing water (SSD condition).

Under certain situations, Batimix bonding agents may be applied on the concrete substrates to increase adhesion. Kindly refer to Holderchem representatives.

2 – Product preparation A 25-kg bag of BATIMIX Mortar 705 should be mixed with 4.5 to 5 liters of clean water, depending on the desired consistency. Do not use water at a rate that will cause bleeding or segregation. The mixing should be done with a medium-speed mechanical mixer for a minimum of 3 minutes until obtaining a consistent homogenous material.

3 – Application BATIMIX Mortar 705 should be continuously placed to provide a smooth and uniform surface. Start in one corner placing a continuous stream of material along one edge of the area and back lap as soon as possible for a uniform, smooth surface. The average yielding rates vary from 12.5 to 14 liters per bag of 25 kg, depending on the amount of water used for mixing.

For horizontal surfaces exceeding 1 m², this product is normally applied at thicknesses not exceeding 10 mm. In case higher thicknesses are required, it is recommended that the subsequent layers be applied after at least 24 hours from the first application. Care should be taken to roughen the previous layer slightly while still damp in order to provide maximum adhesion between various layers.

During application, any machinery adjacent to the grouting operations which might cause vibration must be shut down until the grout has reached final setting. Continuous grout flow is essential. Sufficient grout must be prepared before starting. The time taken to pour a batch must be regulated to the time to prepare the next one. Tools such as rollers and trowels may be used to assist placement.

4 – Curing The temperature during application should be between 5 and 40 °C. When finishing, the exposed areas should be protected from extreme temperatures, wind, and sunshine. Moist curing is essential for a minimum of 3 days using water to optimise its physical properties.

Compliance with Standards

BATIMIX Mortar 705 exceeds the requirements of ASTM C 387 for Standard specification for packaged, dry, combined materials for mortar and concrete to suit specific product’s application requirements.

Storage

BATIMIX Mortar 705 should be stored in a closed and dry place. Avoid freezing and excessive temperatures. Unopened bags have a shelf life of six months when stored as recommended.
