Polymer modified self-leveling underlayment / resurfacing mortar

Description

BATIMIX Mortar 700 is a pre-packaged high strength self-leveling material. It is applied underlayment over concrete floors for the subsequent placement of floor coverings. It is suitable for use as a repair and leveling course. It is applied in thicknesses varying from 3mm to 5mm.

BATIMIX Mortar 700 is formulated with Portland cement type I, selected additives, and carefully-graded sand. It only requires the addition of water before use.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Mortar 700 is specially designed to flow easily if mixed with water. It requires minimum energy for consolidation and leveling. It is used for various structures, interior and exterior sound concrete sub-surfaces of unleveled floors and wood floors. It is also used to repair old concrete.

Features

BATIMIX Mortar 700 has the following characteristics:

  • Easy to use, suitable for both interior and exterior concrete floors
  • Pumpable using standard equipment
  • Self-leveling for smooth and flat slabs
  • Reduced bleeding and sagging
  • Minimal shrinkage for reduced cracking
  • High early and final compressive strength
  • High degree of adhesion and bonding to the substrate

Properties

  • Appearance: Grey powder
  • Bulk density: Around 1.42
  • Grain size: 0 to 1.5 mm
  • Average Vicat setting time (ASTM C 191): 8 – 10 hours
  • Compressive strength after 28 days (ASTM C 109): Minimum 45 MPa
  • Flexural strength at 28 days (ASTM C 348): Minimum 7 MPa
  • Pull-off strength against concrete at 28 days (EN 1015-12): 0.75 MPa

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Mortar 700 contains cement that is irritating to the eyes and skin. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. For further information, kindly refer to the product's Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

1 – Substrate preparation Concrete to be in contact with BATIMIX Mortar 700 must be structurally sound and fully cured. Acid etching is acceptable only when mechanical preparation is impractical. All treated concrete surfaces must possess an open texture with all curing compounds and sealers removed.

Prior to application, all surfaces must be free from dust, oil, grease, or any other foreign substance that may interfere with the bond of the material. Remove all loose or delaminated sand and rock. Moisturise the area with clean water, leaving the substrate saturated but free of standing water (SSD condition).

Under certain situations, Batimix bonding agents may be applied on the concrete substrates to increase adhesion. Kindly refer to Holderchem representatives.

2 – Product preparation A 25-kg bag of BATIMIX Mortar 700 should be mixed with 5.5 to 6.5 liters of clean water, depending on the desired consistency. Do not use water at a rate that will cause bleeding or segregation. The mixing should be done with a medium-speed mechanical mixer for a minimum of 3 minutes until obtaining a consistent homogenous material.

3 – Application BATIMIX Mortar 700 should be continuously placed to provide a smooth and uniform surface. Start in one corner placing a continuous stream of material along one edge of the area and back lap as soon as possible for a uniform, smooth surface. Consumption rates may vary from 14 to 18 kg/m²/cm.

Tools such as rollers and trowels may be used to assist placement. Typical application depths can vary from 3 to 5 mm. In case greater thicknesses are required, it is recommended that subsequent layers be applied after 24 hours from the first application.

4 – Curing Under normal conditions, BATIMIX Mortar 700 does not require special curing. However, in hot and windy climates, it is recommended to wet cure the surface of BATIMIX Mortar 700 for a minimum of 3 days to optimize its physical properties.

Compliance with Standards

BATIMIX Mortar 700 exceeds the requirements of ASTM C 387 for Standard specification for packaged, dry, combined materials for mortar and concrete to suit specific product’s application requirements.

Storage

BATIMIX Mortar 700 should be stored in a closed and dry place. Avoid freezing and excessive temperatures. Unopened bags have a shelf life of six months when stored as recommended.
