Accelerated setting mortar for repair - Grade R1
BATIMIX Mortar 640 is a pre-packaged fast-setting mortar used for repair applications. It is made from cement, graded sand, and additives. These include set-accelerating, plasticizing, and shrinkage-compensating agents.
BATIMIX Mortar 640 is a structural repair material. It is used for partial or full-depth repair and for rehabilitation works of concrete structures, which have to be ready-for-use within short periods of time. Typical areas of application include parking lots, ramps, garages, bridge decks, commercial floors, and warehouses.
Substrate preparation: BATIMIX Mortar 640 must be applied on sound and thoroughly cleaned substrates free of oil, dust, loose particles, and paints. The traces of mould joints must be leveled. All surfaces should be saturated with water (SSD condition) prior to application.
Product preparation: A 25-kg bag of BATIMIX Mortar 640 should be mixed with 3.5 to 4.25 liters of clean water. The mixing should be done with a medium-speed mechanical mixer until obtaining a consistent homogenous material. The mixing time should not exceed 2 minutes, as the mortar may loose its workability very rapidly.
Application: Because of its fast setting characteristics, BATIMIX Mortar 640 can be placed under all temperature conditions. However, in warm weather, cold water can be used to cool mortar temperature. The product should be discharged from the mixer and placed immediately without any delay. Pumping is to be avoided because of the fast setting characteristics.
BATIMIX Mortar 640 must be thoroughly worked in the forms so that they are entirely filled and the reinforcing bars adequately surrounded. The average consumption rates vary from 14 to 18 kg / m2 / cm, depending on the method of application and type of substrate. All placement and finishing operations should be completed within 10 minutes at 23 ºC from the time of contact of the powder mortar with water.
Protection and curing: Freshly deposited BATIMIX Mortar 640 must be protected from excessively hot or cold temperatures and maintained with minimum moisture loss. Curing should begin immediately after the finishing operations for a minimum of 3 days using absorptive mats which must be kept continuously wet. Alternately, appropriate sheet materials or curing compounds conforming to ASTM C 171 / C 309 can also used. Curing compounds can be purchased separately from Holderchem.
BATIMIX Mortar 640 is manufactured to conform to all current requirements of ASTM C 928 Grade R1 for Standard specification for packaged, dry, rapid-hardening cementitious materials for concrete repairs.
BATIMIX Mortar 640 shelf life is six months from the production date if well stored in a closed dry place. Avoid freezing and excessive temperatures.
