Binder for masonry construction
BATIMIX Masonry Binder 50 is a general purpose binder primarily used in masonry construction. It consists of a mixture of Type I Portland cement, fillers, and chemical additives such as plasticizing/water-reducing, water retaining, and air entraining, shrinkage-compensating, and water-repellent agents.
Applications of mortars prepared with BATIMIX Masonry Binder 50 include: •Assemblage and fixing all type of masonry units including concrete blocks, stones, bricks, pavers, and hollow blocks •Plastering and rendering works, whether hand or spray machine applied •Spatter-dash slurry coat mortars used for increasing roughness of smooth substrates before plastering works
Mortars prepared with BATIMIX Masonry Binder 50 are ideal for masonry works. A variety of plastic and hardened construction requirements can be secured, including: •Enhanced workability, because of the presence of fillers and plasticizing agents •Better water retention which prevents the mortar from rapid loss of mixing water •Lower volume changes such as the drying shrinkage and sulfate expansion •Increased coverage ratios, mainly due to the lower product’s density
BATIMIX Masonry Binder 50 contains cement. It is irritating to eyes and skin. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Wear suitable gloves. For further information, please refer to Material Safety Data Sheet.
Depending on the type of element and desired strength, one part of BATIMIX Masonry Binder 50 should be mixed with 2 to 3 parts, by volume, of sand. All used sand shall be well graded meeting the requirements of ASTM C 144 (or similar) for Aggregate for Masonry Mortar. The water should be clean and just enough to obtain a workable consistency.
Mortars made with BATIMIX Masonry Binder 50 can be applied manually using a traditional trowel or mechanically with a projection-spraying device. Appropriate curing procedures are important to ensure the quality and durability of the so-prepared mortars. For detailed application instructions, kindly refer to the product’s “Application Guidelines”.
BATIMIX Masonry Binder 50 is manufactured to conform to all current requirements for EN 413-1 MC 22.5 and ASTM C 1328 Type M.
BATIMIX Masonry Binder 50 is not an ordinary Portland cement, and cannot be used for concreting works. It can solely be used to produce mortars for masonry construction.
