Holderchem

Masonry binder for the assemblage of masonry units

Description

BATIMIX Masonry Binder 10 is a general-purpose binder primarily used in masonry construction. It consists of cement, fillers, and chemical additives. These include plasticizing / water-reducing, water-retaining, and air-entraining admixtures introduced to reduce shrinkage and enhance workability, water retention, and durability.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Masonry Binder 10 is recommended to produce mortars for the assembling and laying of masonry-elements. It is used to prepare spatter-dash slurry coats and plastering mortars, albeit after the addition of cement.

Features

BATIMIX Masonry Binder 10 is used to preparing mortars for masonry works, which have the following characteristics

  • Good workability, from the presence of fillers and plasticizing agents,
  • High water retention that prevents rapid loss of mixing water
  • Low volume changes, such as the drying shrinkage and sulfate expansion, and
  • High coverage ratios, mainly due to the lower products' densities.

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Masonry Binder 10 contains cement that is irritating to eyes and skin. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Wear suitable gloves. For further information, please refer to Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

For assemblage of masonry units and block laying, one part of BATIMIX Masonry Binder 10 is mixed with 2.25 to 3 parts, by volume, of sand to obtain the corresponding mortar as per EN 998-2 M 10 and ASTM C 270 Type N. All used sand shall be well graded meeting the requirements of ASTM C 144 (or similar) for Aggregate for Masonry Mortar. The water should be clean and just enough to obtain a workable consistency.

For spatter-dash slurry coat and plastering mortars, the BATIMIX Masonry Binder 10 should be mixed with Type I Portland cement in order to obtain the appropriate binder for specific application. Users should kindly refer to the product’s “Application Guidelines” for proper cementitious combinations.

Mortars made with BATIMIX Masonry Binder 10 can be applied manually using a traditional trowel or mechanically with a projection-spraying device. Appropriate curing procedures are important to ensure the quality and durability of the so-prepared mortars.

Specifications / Compliance with Standards

BATIMIX Masonry Binder 10 is in conformity with all current requirements for Masonry Cement according to EN 413-1 MC 5 and ASTM C 91 Type N.

Caution

BATIMIX Masonry Binder 10 is not an ordinary Portland cement, and cannot be used for concreting works. It can solely be used to produce mortars for masonry construction.
