Batimix MAC 700

Holderchem

Chloride-based, set-accelerating admixture

Description

BATIMIX MAC 700 is a calcium chloride-based admixture designed to accelerate the setting times of mortars and grouts.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX MAC 700 is designed to reduce the initial and final setting times of mortars and grouts. It is particularly effective in cold weather conditions. This product is recommended for plastering, rendering, patching, pointing, bricklaying, and screeding applications on non-reinforced elements.

Features

Mortars prepared with BATIMIX MAC 700 are characterized by the following:

In the plastic state:

  • Reduced initial and final setting times
  • Minimized bleeding and segregation
  • Densified and cohesive skeleton
  • Faster setting allows for decreased over time, allowing same-day finishing.

In the hardened state:

  • Reduced construction costs as no cold weather delays, and
  • Increased early compressive and flexural strengths.

Properties

  • Appearance : brown liquid
  • Specific gravity: around 1.21 at 23 ºC
  • Chloride content : nil
  • Alkali content : typically less than 1.5% as Na₂O
  • Air entrainment : typically less than 1% at normal dosages
  • Solid content : minimum 30%
  • Freezing point : 0 ºC

Health and Safety

BATIMIX MAC 700 is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.

Compliance with Standards

BATIMIX MAC 700 complies with EN 934 Part 3.

Dosage Rates

The optimum dosage of BATIMIX MAC 700 to meet specific requirements is best determined by trials using the actual mix composition with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in use. As a guide to the trial tests, the addition rates shall vary from 1% to 5% of the cementitious materials. Dosages outside the specified range may be used if necessary to meet particular mix requirements.

When designing mortar mixes with BATIMIX MAC 700, it is necessary to reduce the free water content to maintain similar W/C and compressive strength.

Effect of Overdosing

In general, an overdose of BATIMIX MAC 700 will produce a highly cohesive material with significant loss in workability and increased early strength as compared to that normally obtained. The rapid initial acceleration of the cement hydration process will generally lead to slightly reduced 28-day compressive strength.

Compatibility

BATIMIX MAC 700 is compatible with all types of Portland cement, replacement materials such as silica fume, and other BATIMIX admixtures incorporated in the same mortar. During batching, all admixtures should be added separately to the mortar mix.

The performance of various admixtures should be assessed using trial tests as such combinations may alter setting times, air entrainment, and early strength gain. It is to be noted that the presence of chloride materials may potentially attack steel, aluminium, or zinc embedments.

Dispensing

BATIMIX MAC 700 should not be directly added on the dry cement. It should rather be added after incorporating around 2/3 of the mixing water, and in any case prior to introducing other chemicals such as water-reducers.
