Description

BATIMIX Key Coat 240 is a pre-packaged spatter-dash slurry coat mortar. It is used for increasing the roughness of smooth substrates before plastering works. It is composed of hydraulic binders, carefully graded sand, and selected additives, such as plasticizing and rebound-reducing agents.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Key Coat 240 is used to improve the adhesion of new plaster to existing substrates. It is applied on fair-faced concrete, masonry hollow blocks and stones, and all kinds of existing cementitious-based plasters.

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Key Coat 240 contains cement that is irritating to the eyes and skin. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Wear suitable gloves. For further information, kindly refer to Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

Substrate preparation: The surface of the substrate must be sound and thoroughly cleaned. It should be free of oil, wax, and dust. All loose particles, old wall paper, rust, and paint, should be physically removed.

Product preparation: BATIMIX Key Coat 240 should be mixed with 8 to 10 liters of clean water per bag of 50 kg. The powder can be mixed manually or mechanically for a minimum of 3 minutes or until a homogenous paste is obtained.

Application: BATIMIX Key Coat 240 can be applied manually using a traditional trowel or with a mortar-spraying device in a thickness of around 5 mm. The substrate should be sufficiently dampened and the temperature during application should be between 5 and 35 °C. For detailed application instructions, kindly refer to the product’s Application Guidelines.

All surfaces treated with BATIMIX Key Coat 240, which are to be plastered over, must be left to cure and harden for at least 3 days. During this time interval, the key coat mortar should be protected from extreme temperatures, wind, and direct sun light by curing with clean water at least twice per day. All kinds of cement-based plasters similar to the BATIMIX Plaster and BATIMIX Fiber Plaster can then be applied.

Storage

BATIMIX Key Coat 240 shelf life is six months from the production date if well stored in a closed dry place. Avoid freezing and excessive temperatures.
