Integral moisture barrier for mortars and grouts
BATIMIX IWR M-800 is an integral water-repellent liquid admixture used in all types of mortars and grouts to reduce absorptivity and water penetration of mortars and grouts from the surrounding environment. It is formulated from carefully selected inorganic stearate based raw materials, imparting hydrophobic water-repelling properties. This product can also be supplied in powder form.
BATIMIX IWR M-800 significantly decreases the water permeability of mortars, albeit without altering other properties in the fresh and hardened states. It creates a network of insoluble water-resistant material within the pores of the cement matrix. It forms an effective internal barrier that prevents water transmission.
Applications using BATIMIX IWR M-800 include all types of mortars and grouts used for masonry and repair works such as plastering, rendering, patching, and pointing.
Mortars prepared with BATIMIX IWR M-800 are characterized by the following:
In the plastic state:
In the hardened state:
BATIMIX IWR M-800 is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.
The performance of BATIMIX IWR M-800 is best assessed after preliminary tests using the actual mortar mix design with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in site. The product is found to be effective over a wide range of concrete formulations. Typically, dosages varying from 0.2% to 1.2% of the cement weight are recommended.
When designing mortar mixes with BATIMIX IWR M-800, it is necessary to reduce the free water content to maintain constant W/C and, therefore, similar compressive strength.
For indication purposes, mortar prepared with 25% Portland cement, 75% sand, W/C of 0.50, and 0.8% of BATIMIX IWR M-800 will exhibit an absorption rate of 0.9% when tested according to ASTM C 1403. Such value increases up to 3% for similar reference composition made without BATIMIX IWR M-800.
Tests have shown that overdosed mortars and grouts with BATIMIX IWR M-800 will result in increased cohesiveness of the mixtures.
BATIMIX IWR M-800 is compatible with all types of Portland cement, replacement materials such as silica fume, and other Holderchem admixtures incorporated in the same mortar. During batching, all admixtures should be added separately to the mortar mix. The performance of various admixtures on the fresh and hardened properties should be assessed using trial tests.
BATIMIX IWR M-800 should not be directly added on the dry cement. It should rather be introduced after incorporating around 2/3 of the mixing water to enhance its effectiveness.
Holderchem provides, upon request, complete technical support and on-site assistance to enable correct and effective use of its products.
BATIMIX IWR M-800 has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
