Liquid water-repellent for concrete, mortars and grouts
BATIMIX IWR 421 is a liquid, integral water-repellent admixture used in all types of concrete mixes to reduce absorptivity and water penetration from the surrounding environment. It is blended with plasticizing polymers for improved workability.
BATIMIX IWR 421 significantly decreases the water permeability of concrete. It creates a network of insoluble water-resistant material within the pores of the cement matrix. The addition of this admixture leads to the formation of an effective internal barrier. This prevents water transmission throughout the concrete. The mixing-water demand for the same workability decreases as the plasticizing polymers existing in BATIMIX IWR 421, ensure denser and more durable concrete.
Applications using this product include all types of plain and reinforced concrete castings, such as precast, ready-mixed, lightweight, pumped, and shotcrete.
Concrete prepared with BATIMIX IWR 421 is characterized by the following:
In the plastic state:
In the hardened state:
BATIMIX IWR 421 is not considered a hazardous product. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.
BATIMIX IWR 421 complies with EN 934-2 : T9.
The performance of BATIMIX IWR 421 is best assessed after preliminary tests using the actual concrete mix design with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in site. The product is found to be effective over a wide range of concrete formulations. Typically, dosages varying from 0.2% to 1.2% of the cement weight are recommended.
It is to be noted that the free water content should be reduced when designing concrete mixes with BATIMIX IWR 421 to maintain similar W/C.
Tests have shown that overdosed concrete mixtures with BATIMIX IWR 421 will result in increased workability.
BATIMIX IWR 421 is compatible with all other Batimix admixtures incorporated in the same concrete. It should not be pre-mixed with other admixture as this may alter its performance. During batching, the admixtures should be added separately to the concrete mix. The performance of various admixtures on the fresh and hardened concrete properties should be assessed using trial tests.
BATIMIX IWR 421 is compatible with all types of Portland cement and replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag.
Accurate and reliable automatic dispensing systems should be used to introduce the correct quantity of BATIMIX IWR 421 in the concrete mixer to avoid variations in dosage. This product should not be directly added on the dry cementitious particles. It should rather be introduced after incorporating all of the mixing water and other chemical admixtures.
Holderchem provides, upon request, complete technical support and on-site assistance to enable correct and effective use of its products.
BATIMIX IWR 421 has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
