Batimix IWR 414

Holderchem

Internal moisture barrier for concrete and masonry products

Description

BATIMIX IWR 414 is a liquid integral water-repellent admixture for masonry mixes and concrete products to reduce absorptivity and water penetration from the surrounding environment.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX IWR 414 significantly decreases the water-permeability of concrete masonry products, albeit without altering their other fresh and hardened properties. It forms a network of insoluble water-resistant material within the pores of the cement matrix. This creates an effective internal barrier preventing water transmission.

BATIMIX IWR 414 is also used for all types of plain and reinforced concrete castings such as precast, ready-mixed, lightweight, pumped, and shotcrete.

Features

Concrete prepared with BATIMIX IWR 414 is characterized by the following:

In the plastic state:

  • No detrimental effect on workability or setting

In the hardened state:

  • Minimized water permeability, capillary suction, and moisture transfer
  • No negative influence on drinking water in concrete storage tanks
  • Reduced potential for efflorescence and probability for rebar corrosion
  • Reduced attack of soluble salts and aggressive ions
  • Improved concrete durability and better surface quality

Properties

  • Appearance: brown liquid
  • Specific gravity: around 1.08 at 23 ºC
  • Chloride content : nil
  • Alkali content : typically less than 1.5% as Na₂O
  • Air entrainment : less than 0.5% increase at normal dosages

Health and Safety

BATIMIX IWR 414 is not considered a hazardous product. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.

Compliance with Standards

BATIMIX IWR 414 complies with EN 934-2 : T9.

Dosage Rates

The performance of BATIMIX IWR 414 is best assessed after preliminary tests using the actual concrete mix design with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in site. The product is found to be effective over a wide range of concrete formulations. Typically, dosages varying from 0.2% to 1% of the cement weight are recommended.

It is to be noted that the free water content should be reduced when designing concrete mixes with BATIMIX IWR 414 to maintain similar W/C.

Effect of Overdosing

Tests have shown that overdosed concrete mixtures with BATIMIX IWR 414 will result in slightly higher 28-day compressive strength.

Compatibility

BATIMIX IWR 414 is compatible with all other Batimix admixtures incorporated in the same concrete. It should not be pre-mixed with other admixture as this may alter its performance. During batching, the admixtures should be added separately to the concrete mix. The performance of various admixtures on the fresh and hardened concrete properties should be assessed using trial tests.

BATIMIX IWR 414 is compatible with all types of Portland cement and replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag.

Dispensing

Accurate and reliable automatic dispensing systems should be used to introduce the correct quantity of BATIMIX IWR 414 in the concrete mixer to avoid variations in dosage. This product should not be directly added on the dry cementitious particles. It should rather be introduced after incorporating all of the mixing water and other chemical admixtures.
