Polycarboxylate-based superplasticizer for high-performance concrete
BATIMIX HWR 1503 is a liquid high-range water-reducing (superplasticizer) admixture for high-performance concrete. It is based on synthetic polycarboxylate acid derivatives and on carefully selected chemicals.
BATIMIX HWR 1503 significantly improves concrete workability and allows an effective reduction in the free water content. It is a superior deflocculating product, with a highly marked capacity to disperse cement agglomerates and flocks normally found in a concrete mix. The adsorbed superplasticizer molecules at the cement-water interface induce repulsive forces due to steric hindrance between polymer layers. Thus specified concrete strength grades are achieved with significantly reduced cement content and/or increased workability.
Applications using BATIMIX HWR 1503 include all types of concrete castings such as plain, self-consolidating, reinforced, precast, read-mixed, lightweight, pumped, and shotcrete.
Concrete prepared with BATIMIX HWR 1503 is characterised by the following:
In the plastic state:
In the hardened state:
BATIMIX HWR 1503 is not considered a hazardous product. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.
BATIMIX HWR 1503 complies with: • EN 934: T3.1/3.2 • ASTM C 494 Type F • ASTM C 1017 Type I
The optimum effect of BATIMIX HWR 1503 on fresh and hardened concrete properties such as slump, slump retention, and early strength gain is best determined by trials. Testing should be done using the selected concrete mix design with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in the field.
For normal superplasticizing effect, BATIMIX HWR 1503 should be used at dosage rates varying from 0.2% to 1.5% of the cementitious materials.
Overdosed concrete mixtures with BATIMIX HWR 1503 will exhibit noticeable signs of bleeding and segregation, particularly for W/C ratios greater than 0.45. This will be accompanied by a significant increase in slump. However, the effects of overdosing will lead to limited increase in air entrainment and retardation in setting times as compared to concrete prepared at normal dosage. Provided adequate curing is applied, the ultimate strength will not be impaired by such setting retardation.
BATIMIX HWR 1503 is compatible with all other Batimix admixtures incorporated in the same concrete. It should not be pre-mixed with other admixtures as this may alter its performance. During batching, the admixtures should be dispensed and added separately to the concrete mix. The performance of various admixtures on fresh and hardened concrete properties such as setting times and air entrainment should be assessed using trial tests.
BATIMIX HWR 1503 is compatible with all types of Portland cement and replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag.
Accurate and reliable automatic dispensing systems should be used to introduce the correct quantity of BATIMIX HWR 1503 in the concrete mixer to avoid variations in dosage. This product should not be directly added on the dry cementitious particles. It should rather be introduced after incorporating around 2/3 of the mixing water to enhance its effectiveness and dispersing properties.
