High grade superplasticizer for flowing concrete

Description

BATIMIX HWR 1416-M is a liquid high-range water-reducing (superplasticizer) admixture with enhanced properties for high-performance concrete. It is based on refined naphthalene-sulphonate and carefully selected chemical materials.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX HWR 1416-M is designed to significantly enhance concrete workability and/or facilitate an effective reduction in free water content. This product is a highly potent dispersant that primarily operates through electrostatic repulsion, breaking up aggregates within the concrete mix. This enables the attainment of specified concrete strength grades with a substantial reduction in cement content and/or improved workability.

Applications utilizing BATIMIX HWR 1416-M encompass all types of concrete casting, including plain, reinforced, precast, ready-mixed, lightweight, pumped, and shotcrete.

Features

Concrete prepared with BATIMIX HWR 1416-M is characterised by the following:

In the plastic state:

  • Improved workability without adding extra water
  • Reduced water content up to 40% with minimum secondary effects
  • Enhanced homogeneity, cohesion, and ability to pump the concrete mix
  • Normal setting characteristics under cool conditions

In the hardened state:

  • Increased mechanical strengths - compressive, flexural, and bonding
  • Reduced shrinkage, creep, and water permeability
  • Enhanced concrete durability and surface appearance

Properties

  • Appearance: brown liquid
  • Specific gravity: 1.18 ± 0.02 at 23 ºC
  • Chloride content: nil
  • Alkali content : typically less than 3% as Na₂O
  • Air entrainment: less than 1.5% increase at normal dosages

Health and Safety

BATIMIX HWR 1416-M is not considered a hazardous product. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet

Standard Compliance

BATIMIX HWR 1416-M complies with:

  • EN 934-2 : T3.1/3.2
  • ASTM C 494 Types F and G

Dosage Rates

The most effective impact of BATIMIX HWR 1416-M on the properties of fresh and hardened concrete, such as slump, slump retention, and early strength gain, is best determined through practical trials. These trials should involve testing the product using the chosen concrete mix design and on-site materials under real field conditions.

For achieving the typical superplasticizing effect, BATIMIX HWR 1416-M is typically applied at dosage rates ranging from 0.3% to 3% of the cementitious materials.

Effect of Overdosing

Concrete mixtures overdosed with BATIMIX HWR 1416-M will display noticeable signs of bleeding and segregation, especially when the water-cement (W/C) ratios exceed 0.45. This will be accompanied by a significant increase in slump. However, the effects of overdosing will result in a limited increase in air entrainment and a delay in setting times compared to concrete prepared at the normal dosage. As long as proper curing is applied, the ultimate strength of the concrete will not be compromised by this setting delay.

Compatibility

BATIMIX HWR 1416-M is compatible with all other Batimix admixtures when used together in the same concrete mixture. It should not be pre-mixed with other admixtures, as doing so could potentially impact its performance. During the batching process, it is strongly recommended to dispense and add each admixture separately to the concrete mix. Evaluating the effects of different admixtures on fresh and hardened concrete properties, including setting times and air entrainment, should be done through trial tests.

Moreover, BATIMIX HWR 1416-M exhibits compatibility with all types of Portland cement and substitute materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag.

Dispensing

Accurate and reliable automatic dispensing systems should be used to introduce the correct quantity of BATIMIX HWR 1416-M into the concrete mixer to avoid variations in dosage. This product should not be directly added to the dry cementitious particles. Instead, it should be introduced after incorporating approximately 2/3 of the mixing water to enhance its effectiveness and dispersing properties.
