Batimix HWR 1401

Description

BATIMIX HWR 1401 is a liquid high-range water-reducing (superplasticizer) admixture with enhanced properties for high-performance concrete. It is based on refined naphthalene-sulfonate and carefully selected chemical materials.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX HWR 1401 is designed to significantly improve concrete workability and/or allow an effective reduction in the free water content. This product is a highly powerful dispersant, which essentially functions by electrostatic repulsion breaking-up agglomerates in the concrete mix. This allows specified concrete strength grades to be achieved with significantly reduced cement content and/or increased workability.

Applications using BATIMIX HWR 1401 include all types of concrete castings such as plain, reinforced, precast, ready-mixed, lightweight, pumped, and shotcrete.

In the plastic state:

• Improved workability without adding extra water
• Reduced water content up to 40% with minimum secondary effects
• Enhanced homogeneity, cohesion, and ability to pump the concrete mix
• Normal setting characteristics under cool conditions

In the hardened state:

• Increased mechanical strengths - compressive, flexural, and bonding
• Reduced shrinkage, creep, and water permeability
• Enhanced concrete durability and surface appearance

• Specific gravity: 1.21 ± 0.02 at 23 ºC
• Chloride content : nil
• Alkali content : typically less than 2.5% as Na₂O
• Air entrainment : less than 1% increase at normal dosages

Health and Safety

BATIMIX HWR 1401 is not considered a hazardous product. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.

DOSAGE RATES

The optimum effect of BATIMIX HWR 1401 on fresh and hardened concrete properties such as slump, slump retention, and early strength gain is best determined by trials. Testing should be done using the selected concrete mix design with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in the field.

For normal superplasticizing effect, BATIMIX HWR 1401 is generally used at dosage rates varying from 0.3% to 2.5% of the cementitious materials. Such addition rates can increase up to 3.0% in case highly flowable and/or extremely low W/C concrete is required.

EFFECT OF OVERDOSING

Overdosed concrete mixtures with BATIMIX HWR 1401 will exhibit noticeable signs of bleeding and segregation, particularly for W/C ratios greater than 0.45. This will be accompanied by a significant increase in slump. However, the effects of overdosing will lead to limited increase in air entrainment and retardation in setting times as compared to concrete prepared at normal dosage. Provided adequate curing is applied, the ultimate strength will not be impaired by such setting retardation.

COMPATIBILITY

BATIMIX HWR 1401 is compatible with all other Batimix admixtures incorporated in the same concrete. It should not be pre-mixed with other admixtures as this may alter its performance. During batching, the admixtures should be dispensed and added separately to the concrete mix. The performance of various admixtures on fresh and hardened concrete properties such as setting times and air entrainment should be assessed using trial tests.

BATIMIX HWR 1401 is compatible with all types of Portland cement and replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag.

DISPENSING

Accurate and reliable automatic dispensing systems should be used to introduce the correct quantity of BATIMIX HWR 1401 in the concrete mixer to avoid variations in dosage. This product should not be directly added on the dry cementitious particles. It should rather be introduced after incorporating around 2/3 of the mixing water to enhance its effectiveness and dispersing properties.

Storage

BATIMIX HWR 1401 has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
