Cementitious plasters with synthetic fibers

Description

BATIMIX Fiber Plaster 280 is a pre-packaged cementitious-based mortar designed from a blend of hydraulic binder, carefully graded sand, synthetic fibers, and selected additives such as plasticizing, air-entraining, and shrinkage-compensating agents.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Fiber Plaster 280 is used in plastering works, in particular for exterior elements. It is also used to patch and reprofile masonry structures, restore integrity and improve the appearance of elements, which do not contain steel reinforcements and do not have load-bearing functions.

Features

Batimix Fiber Plaster 280 has the following characteristics:

  • Consistent fresh and hardened properties from the first batch to the last
  • Spreads and clings easily on cementitious-based substrates
  • Strong bonding because of the intimate contact of mortar/substrate
  • Excellent strength and flexural characteristics, with accelerated setting
  • Lower level of shrinkage, therefore better durability and surface quality

Properties

  • Appearance: Powder
  • Bulk density: approx. 1.52
  • Grain size: 0 to 2 mm
  • Wet mix life: around 1 hour at 23°C
  • Consumption rate: 15 to 17 kg/ m²/cm, depending on the method of application
  • Water retention (ASTM C 91): 86%
  • Air content (ASTM C 185): 4.1%
  • Setting time (ASTM C 191): 3 to 5 hours
  • Flexural strength at 28 d (ASTM C 348): 6.1 MPa
  • Compressive strength at 28 d (ASTM C 349): 38.8 MPa
  • Pull-off strength against concrete at 28 d (EN 1015-12): 0.75 MPa
  • Water permeability after 48 hours (EN 1015-21): 0.60 mL/cm²

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Fiber Plaster 280 contains cement, which is irritating to the eyes and skin. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Wear suitable gloves. For further information, kindly refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

Substrate preparation: For patching and reprofiling works, BATIMIX Fiber Plaster 290 must be applied on sound and thoroughly cleaned substrates free from oil, dust, loose particles, and paints. The surface must be moisturized before application.

If BATIMIX Fiber Plaster 280 is used for plastering works, it is advisable to apply a spatter-dash slurry coat such as BATIMIX Key Coat 240 or 250 on the substrate to increase friction. All surfaces must be sufficiently dampened before applying BATIMIX Key Coat which should then be cured for at least 3 days prior to plastering.

Product preparation: Depending on the required consistency, a 50-kg bag of BATIMIX Fiber Plaster 280 is mixed manually or mechanically with 7.5 to 9.5 liters of clean water until a homogenous mix is obtained.

Application: BATIMIX Fiber Plaster 280 can be applied either manually with a plastering trowel or with a mechanical projection machine in layers not exceeding 20 mm. In case multiple layers are required, it is recommended that the subsequent layers be applied at least 24 hours from the first application. For detailed application instructions, kindly refer to the product’s “Application Guidelines”.

Protection and curing: The temperature during application should be between 5 and 35 °C. When finishing, the plaster should be protected from extreme temperatures, wind, and sunshine by moist curing for a minimum of 3 days. Curing compounds can be purchased separately from Holderchem.

Specifications / Compliance with Standards

BATIMIX Fiber Plaster 280 is inconformity with the current requirements of ASTM C 887 for Packaged, Dry, Combined Materials for Surface Bonding Mortar.

Storage

BATIMIX Fiber Plaster 280 shelf life is six month from the production date if well stored in a closed dry place. Avoid freezing and excessive temperatures.
