Epoxy adhesive - High modulus - Medium viscosity
BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV is a 100% reactive, two-component material. It is designed as a moisture insensitive adhesive and binder for numerous application needs. This high modulus material is available in a low viscosity (LV), medium viscosity (MV), or high viscosity (Gel) consistency. BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV provides a faster cure time for bonding concrete at temperatures ranging from 1°C to 16°C.
BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV is a multi-purpose product. It is suitable for the following applications:
For priming and sealing applications at temperatures exceeding 25°C, the medium viscosity product (MV) is more suitable than the LV product. It is not recommended for use as a surface sealer over new concrete or if substrate temperatures are less than 0°C.
BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV exhibits the following characteristics:
BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV is mixed with sand or other aggregates to produce epoxy repair mortars and epoxy repair concrete. Mix the epoxy resin unit (part A) with the hardener unit (part B) before adding the aggregate. Trowel the mortar into place. If the surface is too rough, a topcoat of either BATIMIX Epoxy 200 LV or BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV can be applied.
BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV is not a hazardous material. However, do not heat it with open flames. It should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn as epoxy components may cause skin irritation. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.
BATIMIX Epoxy 200 LV complies with ASTM C881 Types I and II, Grade 1, Classes A and B. It is suitable for use under ACI specifications 503.1 and 503.2; BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV complies with ASTM C881 Types I and II, Grade 2, Classes A and B. It is suitable for use under ACI specifications 503.1 and 503.2; BATIMIX Epoxy 200 Gel complies with ASTM C881 Types I and II, Grade 3, Classes A and B. It is suitable for use under ACI specifications 503.1 and 503.2. All three products (LV), (MV), and Gel meet the requirements of ASTM C 883 and ASTM C 884.
Surface Preparation: New concrete and masonry must be dry and at least 28 days old prior to application. Steel substrates must be prepared to a white finish prior to application. Remove dust and laitance from the surface and cracks with compressed air. Concrete surfaces must be roughened and made absorptive, preferably by mechanical means, and then thoroughly cleaned of all dust and debris. If the surface was prepared by chemical means (acid etching), a water/baking soda or water/ammonia mixture, followed by a clean water rinse, must be used for cleaning, in order to neutralize the substrate. Allow substrate to dry before applying BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV. Do not apply over hardened primer or old epoxy without proper surface preparation nor over freestanding water.
Mixing: Mix BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV at temperatures ranging from 16oC to 21oC using a low-speed drill and a mixing paddle to uniform color. Do not thin BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV. Pre-mix Part A and Part B separately for about 1 minute each. Combine Part A and Part B in a 2 to 1 ratio by volume, then mix thoroughly for 3 to 5 minutes.
To make an epoxy mortar, gradually add clean, dry, 20/40 mesh silica sand to previously mixed BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV and mix thoroughly for 3 to 5 minutes. The mix ratio of aggregate to mixed epoxy is approximately 3 to 1 by volume, but can be modified depending on the desired consistency of the mortar. The aggregate is to be added to the mix after Part A and B have been premixed.
It is recommended to scrape the bottom and sides of the containers at least once during mixing but to refrain from doing so once mixing has ceased as it may cause unmixed resin or hardener being applied on substrate, which will not cure properly. To avoid aerating when mixing, use drill mixing paddles.
Application: To bond fresh concrete to hardened concrete, apply BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV by brush, roller, or squeegee to a well prepared concrete substrate. While the epoxy is still wet, broadcast clean, dry aggregate into the resin until the aggregate is no longer being saturated by the epoxy, applying on any area of aggregate that looks “wet” additional aggregate.
For anchoring bolts, dowels, pins, use BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV or Gel as an epoxy or alternatively as a mortar to grout vertically-aligned anchors into a horizontal substrate. Ensure anchoring holes are free of all debris before grouting.
For patching and repairs, apply BATIMIX Epoxy 200 LV as a primer coat to the prepared concrete surface that needs to be repaired or patched. Subsequently, apply to the area an epoxy mortar prepared from BATIMIX Epoxy Mortar 200 LV or MV by trowel or spatula in 25 to 40 mm layers while the neat primer coat is still tacky. Ensure initial set is achieved before subsequent layers are applied.
For pressure injecting vertical cracks, upon ensuring no water is leaking from cracks, pump BATIMIX Epoxy 200 Gel into cracks using two-component pressure injection equipment. Start from bottom of the crack upwards moving from port to port, capping off ports as proceeding forward.
For treating horizontal cracks, by mechanical means ensure cracks are free of debris and water. If gravity feeding, pump BATIMIX Epoxy 200 LV until cracks are completely filled, and if pressure injecting follow instructions outlined herein above. Take necessary measures to ensure epoxy does not leak through.
For priming/sealing, apply BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV by brush or roller to the prepared surface. At temperatures exceeding 25ºC, the medium viscosity product (MV) may also prove more suitable than the LV product for priming and sealing applications. Porous substrates may require a second coat. Place subsequent epoxy coatings, which may be required if applying on porous surfaces, after the prime coat has become tack free, albeit within 1 to 2 hours of prime coat application.
Cleaning: Clean tools, application equipment, spills immediately with acetone, xylene, or Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) as once it hardens, removal of BATIMIX Epoxy 200 LV will need mechanical abrasion for removal.
Priming/sealing: about 10 m²/l of BATIMIX Epoxy 200 LV.
For bonding toppings, coverage will hover from 4.5 to 9.5 m²/l of BATIMIX Epoxy 200 MV.
For coatings, coverage rates will hover around 10 to 12.5 m²/l.
For repair mortars, coverage ratios will hover from 1 to 2 m²/l (of mortar).
Coverage will vary depending on concrete surface texture and temperatures.
