Description

BATIMIX EL Mortar 770-RS is a ready-to-use extended life mortar conforming to the requirements of ASTM C 1142 Standard Specification for Extended Life Mortar for Unit Masonry type RS.

Extended life mortars are available in different types:

• Batimix EL Mortar 770-RM meeting the requirement of ASTM C 1142 type RM specifications
• Batimix EL Mortar 770-RN meeting the requirement of ASTM C 1142 type RN specifications
• Batimix EL Mortar 770-RS meeting the requirement of ASTM C 1142 type RS specifications
• Batimix EL Mortar 770-RO meeting the requirement of ASTM C 1142 type RO specifications

Main Purpose

Unlike conventional mortar, which is prepared at the job-site, extended life mortar is produced at the manufacturing plant and delivered at a consistency ready to use. At the site, it is stored in containers in a protective manner that minimizes moisture loss due to evaporation and protects the mortar from freezing in cold weather.

Extended life mortars that have stiffened due to loss of water by evaporation can be retempered not more than one time during the working life of the mortar by adding water to restore the required consistency. The early strength that develops is satisfactory for the walls to be constructed at a normal rate and the mortar will retain enough water to ensure long-term strength development.

Applications using BATIMIX EL Mortar 770-RS include masonry applications such as plastering, rendering, pointing, and bricklaying.

Health and Safety

BATIMIX EL Mortar 770-RS is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

Substrate preparation: BATIMIX EL Mortar 770-RS must be applied on sound and thoroughly cleaned substrates free of oil, dust, loose particles, and paints. The traces of mould joints must be leveled. All surfaces should be saturated with water (SSD condition) prior to application.

Product preparation: Depending on the desired consistency, a 25-kg bag of BATIMIX EL Mortar 770-RS is mixed manually or mechanically with 3.5 to 4.25 liters of clean water until a homogenous mix is obtained. Do not add sand or other cement admixtures so as not to alter product characteristics.

Application: BATIMIX EL Mortar 770-RS may be applied by various methods including manually with a plastering trowel and spraying. The average consumption rates vary from 14 to 18 kg / m² / cm, depending on the method of application and type of substrate. During application, any machinery adjacent to the grouting operations, which might cause vibration, must be shut down until the grout has reached final setting.

Protection and curing: The temperature during application should be between 5 and 40°C. When finishing, the grout should be protected from extreme temperatures, wind, and sunshine by moist curing for a minimum of 3 days.

Specification / Compliance

Batimix EL Mortar 770-RS complies with EN 934 Part 3 and the requirement of ASTM C 1142 type RS specifications.

Storage

BATIMIX EL Mortar 770-RS shelf life is six months from the production date, if well stored in a closed dry place. Avoid freezing and excessive temperatures.
