Colored dry shake surface hardener
BATIMIX Color Hardener 620 is a ready-to-use colored surface hardener for coloring and hardening freshly poured concrete. Typically used to provide the base color for stamped concrete, it is applied as a dry shake over freshly leveled and floated concrete in light industrial, commercial, and residential areas.
BATIMIX Color Hardener 620 is composed of cement, wear-resistant specially-graded silica quartz aggregate, and finely ground inorganic coloring pigments and other propriety components, which improve the properties of the finished concrete surface.
BATIMIX Color Hardener 620 builds in color and durability and eliminates the cost of periodically painting the surface. Primary applications include:
Surfaces treated with BATIMIX Color Hardener 620 are characterized by the following:
BATIMIX Color Hardener 620 contains cement; however, it is not a hazardous material. It should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable dust masks should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.
Surface preparation:
The surrounding areas and structures should be protected as much as possible from contamination from BATIMIX Color Hardener 620. Never use calcium chloride in concrete that is to be colored with BATIMIX Color Hardener 620/1. All sub-surfaces must be prepared in a manner consistent with all good concrete pouring practices and local laws.
Application:
Two applications are normally required for uniform coverage. Before broadcasting color onto the prepared surfaces, empty half of the contents of the container into a clean, dry pail and aerate color before broadcasting on surface. There should be a minimal amount of bleed water on the surface of the concrete before applying BATIMIX Color Hardener 620. For the first application, broadcast evenly over area using a casting type motion (avoid clumping), using about 75% of the color. Use normal concrete finishing practices to seat color. The second application of the remaining 25% will complete the coloring process. Be careful not to overwork the surface, excessive troweling may cause color to darken.
In hot or windy conditions, BATIMIX Color Hardener 620/1 should be used to protect the surface from rapid water loss. Caution must be used when spreading color more than 20 m2 or under windy conditions. All personnel must wear dust masks.
BATIMIX Color Hardener 620 is compatible with all types of cementitious-based concrete substrates made using Portland cement or replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, or blast furnace slag. Its final performance should be assessed using trial tests.
