Batimix Cell 645

Holderchem

Liquid admixture for lightweight concrete

Description

BATIMIX Cell 645 is a liquid admixture formulated from a blend of modified resins to produce foam (air cells) when making cellular lightweight concrete.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Cell 645 is used to produce cellular concrete highly desired for its thermal and acoustic insulating properties. In combination with lightweight fine and coarse aggregates, homogeneous voids and light concrete structures are produced with a density as low as 650 kg/m³, which improve concrete resistance to damage by frost and de-icing salts.

Features

Concrete prepared with BATIMIX Cell 645 is characterized by the following:

In the plastic state:

  • Controlled quantity of porosity and voids for cellular concrete
  • Enhanced cohesion, thus reduced bleeding and segregation
  • Improved workability, as voids reduce internal friction

In the hardened state:

  • Reduced density of the hardened product
  • Increased resistance to attack by frost and de-icing salts

Properties

  • Appearance: Clear to slightly yellowish liquid
  • Bulk density: around 0.6 at 23 ºC

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Cell 645 is not considered a hazardous product. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.

Compliance with Standards

BATIMIX Cell 645 complies with ASTM C 869.

Dosage Rates

The optimum dosage of BATIMIX Cell 645 to meet specific requirements is best determined by trials using the actual mix composition with site materials under field conditions. This allows better optimization of admixture dosage and provides complete assessment of concrete properties. As a guide to such trials, the addition rates shall vary from 3% to 10% of the cementitious materials.

Before placement, the concrete should be tested regularly to ensure its density is as intended. Proper curing procedures must be observed for surfaces exposed to difficult weathering conditions.

Effect of Overdosing

An overdose of BATIMIX Cell 645 will result in an increase in porosity and voids which will reduce strength. The degree of this effect will depend on the particular mix design and overdose level.

Compatibility

BATIMIX Cell 645 is compatible with all other Batimix admixtures incorporated in the same concrete. During batching, all admixtures should be added separately to the concrete mix. The performance of various admixtures on the fresh and hardened concrete properties should be assessed using trial tests.

Concrete mixtures based on Portland cement with or without replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag are compatible with BATIMIX Cell 645.

Dispensing

BATIMIX Cell 645 should be used as provided using a reliable dispensing system to add the correct quantity of the product in the concrete mixer. The sequence of introduction should be at the beginning of mixing prior to the introduction of dry cement, i.e. after incorporating around 1/3 of the mixing water along with the aggregate particles.
