Description

BATIMIX Anti-Carbonation M-920 is designed from acrylic polymers blended with selected chemicals to protect atmospherically exposed reinforced concrete structures, cementitious-based substrates, and masonry from aggressive elements and weathering attacks.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Anti-Carbonation M-920 is applied as a coating to protect exposed concrete and masonry substrates from aggressive elements such as carbon dioxide, chloride ions, and water. It is applied to concrete and mortar structures that are used in residential and commercial buildings. Applications also include bridge abutments, boundary walls, storage tanks, and other infrastructure elements.

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Anti-Carbonation M-920 is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.

Dosage Rates

The substrate can be either dry or damp, but being cast for a minimum period of 28 days prior to the application. It should be thoroughly cleaned from all dust, grout, dirt particles, oil grease, or other impurities which can adversely affect uniform adhesion. Highly porous substrates should preferably be first treated by a filler bonding putty prior to application of BATIMIX Anti-Carbonation M-920.

Apply BATIMIX Anti-Carbonation M-920 using a brush, roller, or spraying machine until the substrate is saturated. The material consumption is estimated at about 4 to 10 m2 per kg, depending on the porosity of the substrate. Two or three coats may be required in case the structure is exposed to highly aggressive ions. Surfaces treated with this product can be painted over.

Effect of Overdosing

Tests have shown that an overdose application of BATIMIX Anti-Carbonation M-920 will not lead to any additional protection against carbonation. The dosage rates indicated earlier are considered adequate for proper protection.

Compatibility

BATIMIX Anti-Carbonation M-920 is compatible with all types of cementitious-based substrates made using Portland cement or replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, or blast furnace slag. Its final performance should be assessed using trial tests.

Dispensing

BATIMIX Anti-Carbonation M-920 can be applied using a brush, roller, or any suitable spraying machine. Shake well the product prior to application.

Storage

BATIMIX Anti-Carbonation M-920 has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened. It must be stored at temperatures ranging from 5 to 40 °C. It should not be subjected to direct sunlight.
