Air entraining admixture, liquid, for wet mix shotcrete
BATIMIX Air WG8-L is an aqueous solution of modified resins and surfactants used as an air entraining admixture for shotcrete applied using the wet process applications.
BATIMIX Air WG8-L is designed to produce air-entrained shotcrete for increased durability and resistance to damage by frost and de-icing salts. It can also be used to improve cohesion and workability when poorly graded aggregates are employed or when bleeding and segregation phenomena may occur.
Shotcrete prepared with BATIMIX Air WG8-L is characterized by the following:
In the plastic state:
In the hardened state:
BATIMIX Air WG8-L is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.
BATIMIX Air WG8-L complies with ASTM C 1141 requirements for Type II (wet mix shotcrete), Grade 8, Class A (liquid).
The optimum dosage of BATIMIX Air WG8-L to meet specific requirements is best determined by trials using the actual mix composition with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in use. This allows better optimization of admixture dosage and provides complete assessment of shotcrete properties. As a guide to such trials, the addition rates shall vary from 0.05% to 0.5% of the cementitious materials.
When designing shotcrete mixes with BATIMIX Air WG8-L, it is necessary to reduce the free water content to maintain similar W/C. It should be noted that a large number of parameters affect the dosage required to obtain a desired level of air entrainment. These include nature and grading of fine aggregate, cement fineness and other mineral additives, water-cement ratio, cohesiveness of shotcrete, temperature, mixing equipment, and placement procedures.
An overdose of BATIMIX Air WG8-L will result in an increase in air entrainment which may significantly reduce strength. The degree of this effect will depend on the particular mix design and overdose level. The increased air content from an overdose will generally tend to lead to an increased plasticizing effect.
BATIMIX Air WG8-L is compatible with all other Batimix admixtures incorporated in the same shotcrete. During batching, all admixtures should be added separately to the shotcrete mix as this may alter their performances.
Shotcrete mixtures based on Portland cement with or without replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag are compatible with BATIMIX Air WG8-L.

BATIMIX Air WG8-L has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
