Description

Batimix Acrylic Type II is a ready-to-use acrylic resin-based emulsion added to cement, mortars, Shotcrete, repair concrete, and masonry products to enhance adhesion, water resistance, and chemical and oil resistance.

Main Purpose

Batimix Acrylic Type II is primarily used to enhance the properties of cement mortars used in the following applications:

  • Concrete repairs
  • Groutings
  • Renderings
  • Floor screeds
  • Linings

Batimix Acrylic Type II is used as follows:

  • As an additive for effective and economical bonding slurries.
  • As an additive for rendering over smooth precast concrete elements.
  • As an additive in leveling and repair mortars where higher chemical resistance is required

Health and Safety

Batimix Acrylic Type II is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.

Compliance with Standards

Batimix Acrylic Type II meets the requirements of the following standards:

  • ASTM C 1059 Type II, Standard specification for latex agents for bonding fresh to hardened concrete.
  • ASTM C 1438 Type II, Standard specification for latex and powder polymer modifiers for hydraulic cement concrete and mortar.

Directions for Use

Surface Preparation – If using this product as a slurry bond coat, the concrete must be a minimum of 3 days old. Concrete surfaces must be clean, rough and free from all oil, dirt, debris, paint, cement laitance and unsound concrete which might affect uniform adhesion. The surface must be prepared mechanically using a scabbler, bush hammer, shotblast, or scarifier which will give a surface profile of a minimum 3 mm and expose the large aggregate of the concrete. Acid etching is not acceptable.

The final step in cleaning should be the complete removal of all residues with a vacuum cleaner or pressure washing. Allow the concrete surface to dry. Do not place slurry coat on standing water. All concrete must possess an open surface texture with all curing compounds and sealers removed. All areas should be pre-wetted to reduce moisture loss. Do not place product on standing water.

Bonding – For bonding toppings with this product, it is strongly recommended that a slurry coat be used rather than using this product as a primer by itself. After the surface has been prepared, prime all areas with a slurry coat before the topping is applied. Follow the mixing and placing instructions listed below. Place the topping on the slurry coat before the slurry coat dries out.

Mixing – Small quantities may be mixed with a drill and “jiffy” mixer. Use a paddle type mortar mixer for large jobs. All materials should be in the proper temperature range of 5 to 32*C. Add the appropriate amount of latex for the batch size and then add the dry material. If using Batimix Acrylic Type II with a pre-packaged product, reduce the amount of water added to compensate for the latex addition. Mix a minimum of 3 minutes. The mixed product should be quickly transported to the repair area and placed immediately.

Placement – Discharge material onto the floor. Slurry Application – Spread the slurry with a stiff bristle broom until the suggested coverage rate is achieved.

Topping Application – For patching, spread with a trowel, come-a-long, or square tipped shovel to a thickness that matches the surrounding concrete. Finish by hand troweling. On large floor areas, use screed strips as guides in combination with vibratory screeding to level, Compact and finish by hand or machine trowel.

Finishing – Finish the repair material to the desired texture. Typical texture is a broom or sponge float finish. Do not add additional water to the surface during the finishing operation.

Curing – To prevent surface cracking, a moist cure should be maintained for 24 hours followed by use of a curing compound. Do not use a solvent based curing compound on latex modified mortars.

Clean-up – Clean tools and equipment with water before the material hardens.

Precautions / Limitations:

  • Do not allow heavy traffic until the product has cured.
  • Protect from freezing temperatures.
  • When using this product in conjunction with air entrained cement/ concrete or with other admixtures, the total entrained air content may significantly increase. Testing is strongly advised.

Storage

Batimix Acrylic Type II has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
