Batimix Accelerator 350

Description

BATIMIX Accelerator 350 is a multi-purpose powder admixture designed to accelerate setting times of concrete. It does not contain calcium chloride or added chloride ions that could potentially attack steel, aluminum, or zinc embedments.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Accelerator 350 reduces the initial and final setting times of concrete. It is particularly effective in cold temperatures and unfavorable weather conditions. Its use cuts construction costs and enables earlier removal of formwork systems because of the resulting increase in early strength.

Applications using BATIMIX Accelerator 350 concrete castings include plain, reinforced, precast, ready-mixed, and pumped.

In the plastic state:

Properties

• Appearance: Light blue powder
• Air entrainment: typically, less than 0.5% at normal dosages
• Alkali content: typically, less than 1.5% as Na₂O
• Chloride content: less than or equal to 0.1%

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Accelerator 350 is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.

Dosage Rates

The optimum dosage of BATIMIX Accelerator 350 to meet specific requirements is best determined by trials using the actual mix composition with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in use. For cold weather concreting, follow the ACI 306 recommendations as specific procedures may be required. As a guide to the trial tests, the addition rates shall vary from 0.5% to 4% of the cementitious materials. Dosages outside the specified range may be used, if necessary subject to testing to meet particular mix requirements.

It is to be noted that the free water content should be reduced when designing concrete mixes with BATIMIX Accelerator 350 to maintain similar W/C.

Compatibility

BATIMIX Accelerator 350 is compatible with all other Batimix admixtures incorporated in the same concrete. During batching, all admixtures should be added separately to the concrete mix as this may alter their performances. Concrete mixtures based on Portland cement with or without replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag are compatible with BATIMIX Accelerator 350.

Dispensing

Automatic dispensing systems should preferably be used to introduce the correct quantity of BATIMIX Accelerator 350 in the concrete mixer.

Add BATIMIX Accelerator 350 after the cement and aggregates. Mix thoroughly before adding water. Avoid adding dry powder after water has been fully added to prevent lumps. If using other admixtures (e.g plasticizers) , add them separately and as per sequencing guidelines. Mix well after all components are added ensuring uniform mix period. Check slump/workability, setting time, and temperature as required.

Storage

BATIMIX Accelerator 350 has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
