Chloride free, set-accelerating admixture for shotcrete
BATIMIX Accelerator 340 is a chloride-free liquid admixture designed to significantly accelerate setting times of shotcrete mixes applied under wet or dry processes. Upon request, this product can be supplied in powder form.
BATIMIX Accelerator 340 is used for shotcrete applications to build thick sections, vertical or overhead, with a minimum rebound. It allows rapid concrete setting to take place, particularly effective in cold temperatures and unfavorable weather conditions. Applications using BATIMIX Accelerator 340 include all types of shotcrete and sprayed concrete with or without steel embedments.
Concrete prepared with BATIMIX Accelerator 340 is characterized by the following:
In the plastic state:
In the hardened state:
BATIMIX Accelerator 340 is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.
BATIMIX Accelerator 340 complies with the following standards:
The optimum dosage of BATIMIX Accelerator 340 to meet specific requirements is best determined by trials using the actual mix composition with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in use. As a guide to the trial tests, the addition rates shall vary from 2% to 5% of the cementitious materials. Dosages outside the specified range may be used if necessary to meet particular mix requirements.
It is to be noted that the free water content should be reduced when designing concrete mixes with BATIMIX Accelerator 340 to maintain similar W/C.
In general, an overdose of BATIMIX Accelerator 340 will produce a highly cohesive material with significant loss in workability and increased early strength as compared to that normally obtained. The rapid initial acceleration of the cement hydration process due to overdosing will generally lead to slightly reduced 28-day compressive strength.
BATIMIX Accelerator 340 is compatible with all other Batimix admixtures incorporated in the same concrete. During batching, all admixtures should be added separately to the concrete mix as this may alter their performances. Concrete mixtures based on Portland cement with or without replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag are compatible with BATIMIX Accelerator 340.
For “dry process” shotcrete applications, BATIMIX Accelerator 340 is directly added after the air ring in the spray nozzle. For consistent and accurate supply of the admixture during spraying, the pressure of the delivery system should be adjusted taking into consideration several factors such as type of equipment, diameter hose, and distance to application area. Make sure to agitate well the product prior to use.
In the “wet process”, BATIMIX Accelerator 340 should not be directly added on the dry cement; it should rather be introduced after incorporating around 2/3 of the mixing water. A mid- or high-range water reducing agent should be used to reduce water content while improving workability of the mix.
Holderchem provides, upon request, technical advisory services pertaining to the concrete mix design, admixture selection, materials testing, and dispensing system.
BATIMIX Accelerator 340 has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
