Batimix Accelerator 330

Description

BATIMIX Accelerator 330 is a multi-purpose admixture designed to accelerate the setting times of concrete. It is formulated from high-grade set accelerating chemicals blended with selected plasticizing polymers. This product does not contain calcium chloride or added chloride ions that could attack steel, aluminum, and zinc embedments.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Accelerator 330 reduces initial and final setting times of concrete, without any loss in workability. It is particularly effective in cold temperatures and unfavorable weather conditions. Its use cuts construction costs and enables earlier removal of formwork systems because of the resulting increase in early strength. Applications using BATIMIX Accelerator 330 include all types of concrete castings such as plain, reinforced, precast, ready-mixed, and pumped.

Properties

• Appearance: brown liquid
• Specific gravity: 1.3 ± 0.02 at 23ºC
• Chloride content: nil
• Air entrainment: typically, less than 1.5% at normal dosages
• Alkali content: typically, less than 1.5% as Na₂O

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Accelerator 330 is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.

Dosage Rates

The optimum dosage of BATIMIX Accelerator 330 to meet specific requirements is best determined by trials using the actual mix composition with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in use. For cold weather concreting, follow the ACI 306 recommendations as specific procedures may be required. As a guide to the trial tests, the addition rates shall vary from 0.8% to 3.5% of the cementitious materials. Dosages outside the specified range may be used if necessary to meet particular mix requirements.

It is to be noted that the free water content should be reduced when designing concrete mixes with BATIMIX Accelerator 330 to maintain similar W/C.

Effect of Overdosing

In general, an overdose of BATIMIX Accelerator 330 will produce a highly cohesive material with significant loss in workability and increased early strength as compared to that normally obtained. The rapid initial acceleration of the cement hydration process due to overdosing will generally lead to slightly reduced 28-day compressive strength.

Dispensing

Automatic dispensing systems should preferably be used to introduce the correct quantity of BATIMIX Accelerator 330 in the concrete mixer. This admixture should not be directly introduced on the dry cement. It should rather be added after incorporating around 2/3 of the mixing water, and in any case prior to introducing other chemicals such as water reducers. Make sure to agitate well the product prior to use.

Compatibility

BATIMIX Accelerator 330 is compatible with all other Batimix admixtures incorporated in the same concrete. During batching, all admixtures should be added separately to the concrete mix as this may alter their performances. Concrete mixtures based on Portland cement with or without replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag are compatible with BATIMIX Accelerator 330.

Storage

BATIMIX Accelerator 330 has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
