Quick setting wet mix shotcrete liquid accelerating admixture

Description

BATIMIX Acc WG9-L is a liquid quick set-admixture designed to significantly accelerate setting times of shotcrete mixes applied under wet processes. It does not contain calcium chloride or added chloride ions that could potentially attack steel, aluminum, or zinc embedments.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Acc WG9-L is an admixture used for shotcrete applications to build thick sections, vertical or overhead, with a minimum rebound. It allows rapid concrete setting to take place, particularly effective in cold temperatures and unfavorable weather conditions. Applications using BATIMIX Acc WG9-L include all types of shotcrete and sprayed concrete with or without steel embedments.

Features

Concrete prepared with BATIMIX Acc WG9-L is characterized by the following:

In the plastic state:

  • Extremely reduced workability and setting time of concrete mixtures
  • Decreased overtime, allowing same-day finishing Reduced initial and final setting times
  • Improved thixotropic properties, allowing thick sections to be built
  • Minimum rebound and single-pass spray coatings
  • Reduced bleeding and segregation

In the hardened state:

  • Reduced construction costs – no cold weather delays
  • Increased early compressive and flexural strengths

Properties

  • Appearance: liquid
  • Specific gravity: 1.38 ± 0.02 at 23 ºC
  • Chloride content: nil
  • Air entrainment: less than 1.5% at normal dosages
  • Alkali content: typically, less than 1.2% as Na₂O

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Acc WG9-L is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.

Compliance with Standards

BATIMIX Acc DG9-L complies with ASTM C 1141 requirements for Type I (dry mix shotcrete), Grade 9 (quick accelerator), Class A (liquid).

Dosage Rates

The optimum dosage of BATIMIX Acc DG9-L to meet specific requirements is best determined by trials using the actual mix composition with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in use. As a guide to the trial tests, the addition rates shall vary from 2% to 5% of the cementitious materials. Dosages outside the specified range may be used if necessary to meet particular mix requirements.

It is to be noted that the free water content should be reduced when designing concrete mixes with BATIMIX Acc DG9-L to maintain similar W/C.

Effect of Overdosing

In general, an overdose of BATIMIX Acc DG9-L will produce a highly cohesive material with significant loss in workability and increased early strength as compared to that normally obtained. The rapid initial acceleration of the cement hydration process due to overdosing will generally lead to reduced 28-day compressive strength.

Compatibility

BATIMIX Acc DG9-L is compatible with all other Batimix admixtures incorporated in the same concrete. During batching, all admixtures should be added separately to the concrete mix as this may alter their performances. Concrete mixtures based on Portland cement with or without replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag are compatible with BATIMIX Acc DG9-L.

Dispensing

For “dry process” shotcrete applications, BATIMIX Acc DG9-L is directly added after the air ring in the spray nozzle. For consistent and accurate supply of the admixture during spraying, the pressure of the delivery system should be adjusted taking into consideration several factors such as type of equipment, diameter hose, and distance to application area. Make sure to agitate well the product prior to use.
