Batimix Acc WG1-P

Holderchem

Wet mix shotcrete powder accelerating admixture.

Description

BATIMIX Acc WG1-P is a silicate-based powder admixture designed to accelerate setting times of shotcrete mixes applied under wet processes. It does not contain chloride ions that can potentially attack steel reinforcement in concrete.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX Acc WG1-P is used for shotcrete applications to build thick sections, vertical or overhead, with a minimum rebound. It allows rapid concrete setting to take place, particularly effective in cold temperatures and unfavorable weather conditions.

Applications using BATIMIX Acc WG1-P include all types of shotcrete and sprayed concrete with or without steel embedments.

Features

Concrete prepared with BATIMIX Acc WG1-P is characterized by the following:

In the plastic state:

  • Reduced initial and final setting times of concrete
  • Improved thixotropic properties, allowing thick sections to be built during shotcrete applications
  • Minimum rebound and single-pass spray coatings
  • Reduced bleeding and segregation

In the hardened state:

  • Reduced construction costs – no cold weather delays
  • Increased early compressive and flexural strengths

Properties

  • Appearance : whitish powder
  • Specific gravity: around 0.75 at 23 ºC
  • Chloride content: nil
  • Alkali content: typically, less than 1.5% as Na₂O

Health and Safety

BATIMIX Acc WG1-P is not a hazardous material. However, it should not be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin and eyes. Suitable gloves and goggles should be worn. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.

Compliance with Standards

BATIMIX Acc WG1-P complies with ASTM C 1141 requirements for Type II (wet mix shotcrete), Grade 1 (conventional accelerator), Class B (non-liquid).

Dosage Rates

The optimum dosage of BATIMIX Acc WG1-P to meet specific requirements is best determined by trials using the actual mix composition with site materials under conditions that will be experienced in use.

As a guide to the trial tests, the addition rates shall vary from 1% to 4% of the cementitious materials. Dosages outside the specified range may be used if necessary to meet particular mix requirements.

Effect of Overdosing

In general, an overdose of BATIMIX Acc WG1-P will produce a highly cohesive material with significant loss in workability and increased early strength as compared to that normally obtained. The rapid initial acceleration of the cement hydration process due to overdosing will generally lead to slightly reduced 28-day compressive strength.

Compatibility

BATIMIX Acc WG1-P is compatible with all other Batimix admixtures incorporated in the same concrete. During batching, all admixtures should be added separately to the concrete mix as this may alter their performances. Concrete mixtures based on Portland cement with or without replacement materials such as silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag are compatible with BATIMIX Acc WG1-P.

Dispensing

In the “wet process”, BATIMIX Acc WG1-P should not be directly added on the dry cement; it should rather be introduced after incorporating around 2/3 of the mixing water. A mid- or high-range water reducing agent should be used to reduce water content while improving workability of the mix.

Technical Support

Holderchem provides, upon request, technical advisory services pertaining to the concrete mix design, admixture selection, materials testing, and dispensing system.

Storage

BATIMIX Acc WG1-P has a minimum shelf life of 12 months if kept unopened and stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 50 ºC.
