Polyester reinforced atactic polypropylene (APP) modified waterproofing membrane (180 g/m²) in 3mm thickness with polyethylene film on top

Description

BATIMIX ABWM 120 (P/180 Plain, 3mm) is an APP (Atactic Polypropylene) modified, bituminous waterproofing membrane produced in 3mm thickness for general waterproofing applications. Its upper surface and subsurface are coated with PE. It is reinforced with Polyester.

Main Purpose

BATIMIX ABWM 120 (P/180 Plain, 3mm) is ideal for general use in single or multi-layer systems. It is used for waterproofing any concrete or cemented flat surface. It is also used for waterproofing low slope concrete roofs, balconies, car parks, sewage canals, and subgrade structures.

Features

BATIMIX ABWM 120 (P/180 Plain, 3mm) membrane is characterized by the following:

  • Used in single or multilayer systems
  • Provides a strong, lasting bond
  • In situ waterproofing, with a local application exactly where it's needed
  • Excellent alternative for areas with many complex details
  • Quick and straightforward to apply
  • Water cannot find a track under the membrane, enabling any damage to be traced quickly and repaired easily
  • Adheres readily to any sound concrete, brickwork, timber, or steel. It will effectively cover corners and any minor surface irregularities or protrusions
  • Can be applied at temperatures as low as -50°C
  • Excellent low-temperature flexibility and adhesion characteristics
  • No on-site curing is required
  • When used over construction or bridging joints, there is no need for specific detailing as the membrane is flexible enough to accommodate minor structural movements that are likely to occur
  • Has been independently assessed to last the lifetime of the structure

Properties

  • Reinforcement: 180 g/m²
  • Dimensions: Length 10m - Width 100cm
  • Thickness: 3 ± 0.2mm
  • Dimensional stability: ≤ 0.6%
  • Flexibility at low temperature: -5°C
  • Flow resistance at elevated temperature: 110°C
  • Tensile strength (MD/CMD): 600/400 N/50mm
  • Reaction to fire: Class E
  • Water vapor properties: 20,000
  • Dangerous substances: none

Health and Safety

BATIMIX ABWM 120 (P/180 Plain, 3mm) is not a hazardous material. For additional information, kindly refer to the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet.

Directions for Use

Preparation of the Substrate:

Typically, concrete surfaces should be thoroughly swiped of all dirt and construction debris and then cleaned with a blower. Do NOT power wash with water.

All concrete surfaces must be left dry, free of voids, laitance, or any other matter that may impair the high bond or performance of the membrane and frost-free. Contact Holderchem for advice on the effective removal of more difficult contaminants such as form-release agents or curing compounds.

The resultant surface should be uniform and slightly roughened to increase the bond achieved by the membrane.

After cleaning and carrying out any necessary repair work, the concrete substrate should be primed with a high penetration primer, spray or roller applied. Allow the primer to dry thoroughly. Metal, plywood, and wood boarding need not be primed.

Application Method:

After the concrete substrate has been primed, BATIMIX ABWM 120 (P/180 Plain, 3mm) is fixed by torch welding the underside. The application should not proceed during inclement weather. Rain-soaked surfaces should be thoroughly dry before the first layer is applied. Membranes should be installed on all vertical surfaces prior to application on horizontal surfaces.

Ensure that when applied, the vertical membrane lap ends on the horizontal surface a minimum of 15 cm. Using a squeegee apply the first layer of membrane to the main areas of the substrate to a minimum thickness of 3mm. Allow for 75mm overlaps, taking into account the membranes 1m width.

Ensure there are no air pockets or creases. On the same day apply a second coat of BATIMIX ABWM 120 (P/180 Plain, 3mm) to a minimum thickness of 3mm fully encapsulating the fabric reinforcement within the membrane.

A protection sheet should then be brush-rolled into the membrane surface as quickly as possible while it is still tacky and warm. All protection sheet edges should overlap by a minimum of 75mm and be sealed with BATIMIX ABWM 120 (P/180 Plain, 3mm). Once installed the waterproofed area can be accessed by operatives to install subsequent coverings.

Storage

Storage Guidelines: Store in a dry and cool environment in a shaded, and well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures to prevent deformation or premature aging. Store rolls vertically on end to prevent flattening or deformation. Avoid stacking rolls horizontally.

Keep materials covered and protected from rain, snow, and UV rays. Store in enclosed spaces if outdoor storage is necessary. Ideal storage temperature is typically between 5°C and 30°C (41°F – 86°F).

Avoid storing below freezing temperatures, especially if membranes have self-adhesive layers. Do not stack heavy objects on top of the rolls. Ensure the surface is flat and stable to prevent tipping or damage.

Handling Guidelines: Use Caution When Lifting. Use proper lifting techniques or mechanical equipment. Bituminous rolls can be heavy and awkward to carry.

Inspect Before Use: Check for damage, deformation, or contamination before application. Damaged rolls should not be used and must be reported or replaced.

Protect the Edges: Handle rolls carefully to avoid damaging the edges, which are critical for overlap and sealing.

Avoid Contaminants: Keep membranes away from oils, solvents, and chemicals that could degrade the bitumen. Use older stock first to avoid aging or expiry of materials.

Safety Notes: Follow PPE guidelines (gloves, safety boots, etc.). If using torched membranes, handle with fire safety precautions in place. Be cautious of fumes when heating bituminous products.
